Gators get their 2015 quarterback, four-star prospect from California

A couple of years ago, Florida received a pretty good commitment from thousands of miles away, a California native out of Rancho Verde High School. His name is Ronald Powell.

This weekend, the Gators received another one from the high school. Hefits Florida’s new offense like a glove: Ascending QB prospect Sheriron Jones. Jones is a 6-foot-3, 195 pound four-star prospect who had seen his stock raise exponentially in recent weeks after his QB classmates from 2015 kept committing. Tennessee and Florida were two of those schools that turned the heat up with Jones in May.

Jones is rated the No. 7 dual-threat QB in the country and No. 220 overall.

Arizona had previously been a school after Jones, but the Wildcats landed a commitment in late spring and Jones began looking around. Jones visited both Tennessee and Florida in the past week, and he committed to the Gators after attending an on-campus camp.

“It’s so much like family there,” Jones told “I love the coaching staff, they’ve been straightforward with me. I just love being at the Swamp.”

  • taken some poetic license here, ‘oh how the mighty old man ideas of defense and power running backs has been re-thnken’. The new planet Manziel in the solar system and the Tigers of new stripes have brought two more ideas to an already great league of ways to win a football game and the result is even more fun than before. To quote Lincoln’s civil war focus, “I need a general (a quarterback) who will fight (and be even more creative). Long live the king SEC.
