South Carolina didn’t make the cut for four-star defensive end Michael Barnett, but neighboring Georgia and SEC power LSU did.
Barnett–a former Virginia Tech commitment who dropped the Hokies in February–has had a busy spring. Things ramped up in a two week span in late February when the Gamecocks, Tigers and Bulldogs all offered him. Alabama and Notre Dame also offered this spring. But he listed his top five with Scout.com and only the Bulldogs and Tigers survived from the SEC, and in-state Clemson is the presumed leader since it is in-state, but anything can happen. Florida State and N.C. State are also in it.
Barnett emphasized that those five weren’t only his top five, but his final five. He is a 6-foot-5, 245-pound defensive end out of Dorchester (S.C.). He did say his final decision will be announced on national signing day next February. He is rated the No. 258 overall prospect in America and the No. 4 prospect in South Carolina.
