Sony Michel doesn’t need 30 carries to do a ton of damage, as the Georgia commitment proved Friday night in helping lead his high school team to a state championship game.
Michel rushed for 137 yards on just 15 carries, scoring three touchdowns. He splits carries with another talented running back at American Heritage School in Plantation (Fla.), but he still got a good chunk of the offense against Lake Wales High School, a school giving up only 10.6 points per game. They won 48-15. The state championship will be next Saturday in the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.
“This is a wonderful feeling that we have another game to go,” Michel told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “This team is not worried about playoff games. We just take each game at a time. I don’t think this has really hit our guys.”
- Mizzou WR commit Nate Brown caught a critical touchdown pass in a playoff win for North Gwinnett (Ga.). He caught it with 11 seconds remaining in the first half, and his team ended up winning 27-11 and is heading to the AAAAAA champoinship game in Georgia.
- Florida 2015 WR commit Da’Vante Phillips had a torrid streak in Miami Central’s big state semifinal win in Florida over Mainland out of Daytona Beach. He caught three touchdowns in the win, on eight receptions for 211 yards. His prep teammate, RB Dalvin Cook–who is also committed to Florida–rushed for 77 yards on 22 carries.
