LSU didn’t keep Laurence “Hootie” Jones away from Alabama, but the Tigers may be jumping for joy two weeks from today.
Clifton Garrett, the five-star linebacker from Illinois, will no longer wait until the U.S. Army All-America game to announce his school choice–he’ll be doing it on Monday, Dec. 16 now. And LSU is looking like the destination for Garrett, who also took official visits to Ole Miss, Tennessee and Florida.
Garrett Tweeted the announcement-time update from his personal account, stating that he wanted to announce the decision on his birthday. His announcement is expected to begin a windfall of five-star commitments for LSU, which will hit its crescendo on Jan. 2 during the Under-Armour All-American game in St. Petersburg, Fla.–when Leonard Fournette, Tony Brown, Speedy Noil, Malachi Dupre and Gerald Willis have expressed interest in announcing their school choices. Of course, things can always change, but by Jan. 3, LSU fans will have smiles on their faces again, and will forget Jones’ decision from earlier today. The Tigers can expect a huge push from where their class is currently ranked in the teens to at least the national top five and possibly the nation’s top three.
Garrett is an instinctive player at outside linebacker, has good speed and size (6-2/230). He is rated the No. 27 overall player in the nation by the 247Sports.com composite ranking.
