Not many people know about Jay Johnson. Yet.
At least that’s the way he sees it. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound wide receiver/defensive back is the third class of 2015 recruit to add himself to the Mississippi State commitment list. He’s the fourth overall to join the class. Johnson is a bit underrated, not even securing a star-rating since he’s not recognized by any of the services, but the Bruce High School (Miss.) prospect has the size to turn some heads once he’s a bit better known. Johnson got his offer from the Bulldogs in October, and had two unofficial visits to campus this fall. Ole Miss is also recruiting him, but has not offered.
As a junior, Johnson accounted for 1,364 total yards rushing, receiving and returning kicks, while also tallying 42 tackles on defense.
He joins Yazoo City DE Timothy Washington and Shreveport (La.) DT T.D. Moton, both 2015 four-star prospects who both came aboard in November, and one of the nation’s top 2015 junior college prospects, four-star WR Donald Gray, has been a commitment for several months.
“I really don’t know much about (Johnson) yet,” Washington told Saturday Down South. “But I looked him up and I feel that he will be a good piece to Mississippi State so that we could win a national championship.”
