It’s never too early to rank: Ole Miss has best 2016 class so far

This week, two SEC schools–LSU and Mississippi State–added 2016 commitments. That made those of us at Saturday Down South wonder … who has the SEC’s top 2016 class so far?

The answer, according to the rankings?: Ole Miss

The impressive trio of five-star WR DeKaylin Metcalf and four-star prospects RB Justin Conner and OL Eli Johnson give the Rebels three recruits already, and

And while we’re at it, who has the best 2017 class? … just kidding. We can wait a while for that. Only two SEC schools and six in the country even have a commitment for 2017. This isn’t basketball, you know.

Here’s a look at the SEC schools and how they stack up against each other and the rest of the country for the class of 2016. Keep in mind, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Mizzou, South Carolina and Vandy don’t have 2016 recruits yet, so they are not included:

Nationally: No. 1
Top committed prospect: WR Dekaylin Metcalf (No. 25 overall prospect in America)
The skinny: You have to admit, this is a very nice start for the Rebels. Three national top 250 prospects (Conner and Johnson also). Not too shabby.

Nationally: No. 2
Top committed prospect: QB Feleipe Franks (No. 54 overall player in nation).
The skinny: Tigers already have snagged the quarterback everybody in the SEC wanted–including Alabama. Franks is a good one.

Top committed prospect: OL Patrick Hudson (No. 9 overall prospect in nation).
The skinny: The Aggies may only have one kid aboard already, but when he’s a five-star prospect and No. 9 in the country like Hudson, it’s a nice start.

Top committed prospect: OL Landon Young (No. 121 overall prospect in America).
The skinny: Young is rated the No. 2 overall prospect in the state of Kentucky for his class. The Wildcats needs these kids to stay home.

The skinny: If this group ends up like the last few classes under Butch Jones, it’ll be outstanding. Four-star Middleton is a start.

  • Ole Miss’ 2016 class is going to end up being a top 3 class. They are leading for a ton of blue chip recruits. This class is going to crazy talented.

  • Yeah it’s lookin good but our 2015 class seems to be kinda slow guess we have been spoiled in the freeze era ill bet it will pick up its still early

    • Ole Miss has to take their time this year because this years recruiting class is going to be small. So they have to make sure that they get the guys they want and need. Ole Miss is the mix for a lot of blue chip recruits this season. But next years class is going to be the best class Ole Miss has ever brought in as far as star power.
