Offense-Defense Bowl to feature 30 SEC commits on Jan. 3

The Offense-Defense All-American Bowl doesn’t get quite as much hype as the older U.S. Army Game or the snazzy Under-Armour Game, but it is the game that featured Cam Newton and Johnny Manziel when they were seniors in high school–and as we all know, both won Heisman Trophies.

The first Offense-Defense game was played in Jan. 2007, and Newton was the MVP. This year, 30 SEC commitments are pledged to play in what is known as the “Senior Bowl” part of the week, which will happen Friday, Jan. 3 at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando (Fla.). In past years, the game has been played in south Florida, Texas and South Carolina.

Tennessee and Kentucky each have seven players committed to the game, leading the SEC. Justin Thornton of Auburn is the highest rated player committed to the game, as he is rated the No. 95 prospect in the country. Tennessee commits Cortez McDowell, Daniel Helm and Derek Barnett are also ranked as Top 200 prospects.

Editor’s note: All ranking references are based on the composite ranking.

  1. only 7 of them play for the west side.

  2. Hey Brian, when the dates get nearer, will you guys present a summary of the different All-Star games, when they will be, and which networks will be televising them? That would be helpful for those of us interesting in catching some of our team’s future stars on TV. Thanks.
