Chances are, Ole Miss fans haven’t heard much about Jaylon Lane. Chances are, they’ll know him very well after a couple of years.
Lane is 6-foot-3, 185 pounds and runs a 4.44-second time in the 40 yard dash–making one wonder if he was just overlooked up until this point. That makes him a prime contender for a double take when he takes the practice field for the first time for the Rebels. He also plays his high school football in Texas, just like fellow 2015 Ole Miss classmate Rawleigh Williams, who is from Dallas (Lane is from Nacogdoches). Lane is rated a three-star prospect, but don’t be surprised if that changes soon, too.
Talk about slipping under the radar.
“I think our class is real good and solid, and we’re going to be great … and I love Coach (Hugh) Freeze,” Lane told Saturday Down South after announcing his decision Friday. “Coach is real laid back. They all say they like me a lot and they like that I’m a big corner with size and length, with great ball skills. They said they loved my film.”
Lane just received his offer last week and pounced on the chance to play in the SEC. Up until last weekend, his only offers were from Louisiana Tech and South Alabama, and he had taken unofficial visits to TCU and Texas Tech. He scored three return touchdowns this past fall, and has nine interceptions in two years. Lane is the program’s fourth commitment for 2015.
