SEC schools nearly done with QB recruiting, but a few still working

This weekend, Florida and Ole Miss got their guy as far as quarterbacks are concerned. The Gators got a commitment from four-star California product Sheriron Jones and Ole Miss got one from Louisiana native Jason Pellerin. Also last week, Mississippi State added its second quarterback in Nick Tiano.

Also in the past week or two, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt added their QB targets.

Besides five-star Torrance Gibson, who Auburn and Tennessee want badly, the next hot one is four-star dual-threat QB Travis Waller–a playmaker who has caught the eye of Alabama, Notre Dame and Oregon, just to name a few. Tennessee has also showed big-time interest. Others to keep an eye on pro-style QBs Ross Trail, Reese Ryan, and Quentin Dormady, along with dual-threat QBs Kai Locksley and Deondre Francois.

Here’s a look at each team and where they stand. Note that some programs really won’t have a clear picture of their top realistic targets until commitments start flowing, nationally.

Alabama David Sills?? ??? Four-star stud Travis Waller might be in play
Arkansas Ty Storey none Storey is solidly on board for Razorbacks
Auburn Torrance Gibson Kai Locksley Gibson told SDS Tigers No. 1; Also, Tyler Queen is on board
Florida Sheriron Jones Deondre Francois Jones came aboard over the weekend after attending camp
Georgia ???? ???? This isn’t a massively critical year for QBs for the Bulldogs
Kentucky Reese Ryan? ???? Still sifting through the possibilities
LSU Torrance Gibson ???? LSU won’t get Gibson, so will it even take a QB this year?
Ole Miss Jason Pellerin none Rebels are all set now after landing Pellerin this weekend
Mississippi St. Chason Virgil Nick Tiano Bulldogs have their two guys for 2015
Missouri Drew Lock none Lock committed to the Tigers in the past month, they’re all set now
South Carolina Lorenzo Nunez none Nunez is now on board. Gamecocks did a nice job with him.
Tennessee Torrance Gibson Quentin Dormady Vols have shot at landing Gibson, but will have to wait
Texas A&M Kyler Murray None Aggies’ legacy is now on board, Oregon will have to look elsewhere
Vandy Kyle Shurmur None Shurmur came aboard recently

  • You need to take a QB every year. LSU will probably offer Pellerin at some point. Blake Barnett is supposed to be visiting this week.

    • It’ll be hard for LSU to get an “elite” QB this cycle with Harris and Franks as bookends, but this is a good opportunity to take a guy with a chip on his shoulder that you can develop and maybe get something out of.

    • They’ve offered Francois too, I think. With two QBs transferring, they probably sign a QB this year. I know they’ve got commits in future classes, but they still need to sign another QB for insurance.

  • Heard this about Tuesday morning camp at LSU:
“LSU may have honed in on a quarterback in the Class of 2015. Offensive coordinator Cam Cameron gave plenty of time and instruction to Cedar Hill (Texas) Justin McMillan during a 7-on-7 and 1-on-1 portion near the end of the morning session.”
