Two days ago, the recruiting world was praising Georgia for its recent work in hauling in three commitments in a matter of hours. Well, South Carolina did it even more quickly in the past 24 hours.
On Friday, four-star safety Antoine Wilder committed to the Gamecocks, giving them them their third pickup in around one day. Wilder is a 5-foot-11, 175-pound DB out of Atlanta whose only two other offers were Mississippi State and non-FBS Tennessee State. He has really emerged in just the last few weeks, flying up the recruiting rankings and taking the No. 315 spot in the national overall.
“Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard,” Wilder told Saturday Down South. “South Carolina has been top 10 the last three years and only three schools scan say that. Going 11-2 last year was something special.”
Wilder and one of South Carolina’s Thursday pickups, Jalen Henry out of Alabama, were virtual unknowns a few months ago. But that’s what coaches and evaluations are for, and the Gamecocks’ staff likes what it sees. South Carolina’s other pickup in the past day, offensive tackle Austin Clark, is a four-star prospect. There are 14 commitments on board with South Carolina now.
