Vanderbilt had hoped to hold on to several of James Franklin’s commitments, and the news on Bailey Granier and Trent Sherfield sticking with the Commodores has certainly been some good news in recent days and weeks.
But two big targets have chosen other destinations in the past 24 hours. Offensive lineman Jesse Burkett decided to go with Stanford–hardly a bad choice–and this morning 6-foot-4 Kameron Uter chose Wake Forest. Uter looked like one of those players the school might have had a chance to hold onto, but it wasn’t to be.
Only seven commitments of the original 20 now remain on board with the Commodores–who have also added two new commitments since the coaching change.
There is at least a small chance the new staff may be able to retain DB Amani Oruwariye. The 6-foot-1, 180 pound cornerback has kept Vandy on the list since dropping it on Jan. 15, but he is also being courted by Franklin and Penn State, as well as Missouri.
