It is hard to believe this Vanderbilt recruiting class was roughly a top 25 class just 10 days ago, yet has gone from 20 commitments to eight since.
Two more dropped the Commodores on Monday.
With former coach James Franklin’s departure to Penn State, the program has dropped by 12. And even with the announced hiring of Stanford assistant coach Derek Mason, the program lost QB/ATH Trace McSorley and DB Grant Haley on Monday. Just this weekend, McSorley told Saturday Down South that he was happy with Mason’s hiring, but that’s an example of how quickly things change in recruiting.
Five Vandy recruits have already committed to Franklin and Penn State. McSorley and Haley are two of them.
Amazingly, two of Vanderbilt’s top recruits are still intact in four-star DBs Kyle Gibson and Emmanuel Smith. Though that can obviously change. Also, Mason may have been in California with Stanford, but the Cardinal always recruited well in Florida and Georgia, pulling all kinds of recruits out of those two hotbeds. It may not be long before that’s happening again with Mason, just like it did with Franklin.
