Georgia, Tennessee and Florida.
In years past, these three programs would have constituted the top three of the SEC East–and nearly a guaranteed three losses on Vandy’s schedule. This year? The Commodores beat all three and they’re heading to a bowl game for a third straight season. This is what recruits love about coach James Franklin, and that’s why his class is now on the verge of being one of the top 25 or classes in the country, not the bottom 25 like in the past.
There are 20 commitments on board, and big-time LB target Nyles Morgan of Illinois is still seriously considering the Commodores. He will take his official visit to the school on Jan. 24. DB Parker Westphal and WR Trevon Lee are also targets who are considering Vandy, and many schools covet them as well.
Just like Stanford is doing in the Pac-12, Northwestern is doing in the Big Ten and Duke is doing in the ACC, Vanderbilt is proving–with excellent coaching–that you can be an elite academic school and win big-time football games.
It has fired up commitment Lloyd Tubman.
“I’m going to be playing with dominators who love to compete, and this is really what we need at Vanderbilt,” Tubman told SDS. “Coach Franklin is a great coach. He’s very humorous and loves to chat but he always has a focused mind set as well. I love that guy. I’m going to learn a lot from him and his staff.”
