Tennessee didn’t have to go very far for its 13th commitment of the 2015 class. In fact, Jocquez Bruce could probably hop on a bicycle and be in Butch Jones’ office in a few minutes.
Bruce is the do-everything-on-the-field-and-do-it-well addition to the Vols’ class. He’ll be classified as an “athlete” because he can run the ball, catch it, return it on kicks and defend it at cornerback. He’s 5-foot-10, 165 pounds out of South Doyle H.S. in Knoxville. It was a “dream come true” situation for a hometown kid who received an offer when he attended Tennessee’s camp. Besides the Vols, most of his offers were from lower level FBS and FCS schools.
As a junior, he rushed for 852 yards and 8 TDs, while averaging 20.4 yards per kickoff and 8 per punt return. On defense he had 38 tackles and 2 INTs. He’s classified as a three-star prospect.
He’s the ninth player out of Knoxville to come aboard with the Vols since 2011. Last year, for instance, stud defender Todd Kelly Jr. was one of those Knoxville residents to pick Tennessee. With Bruce’s addition, the Vols are rated No. 13 in the nation as a class.
