Jim Bob Cooter, former Tennessee QB, lands NFL offensive coordinator job, per report

Jim Bob Cooter was a backup QB at Tennessee during his college career and eventually joined the Vols’ staff as a graduate assistant in 2007 and 2008.

Since then, he’s been in the NFL ranks, serving as an assistant with the Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Now he’s going back to Indianapolis, it appears, as ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that he’ll be the Colts’ new offensive coordinator:

Jim Bob Cooter is expected to be named offensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts, per sources. Last year’s pass-game coordinator with Jacksonville was former Lions OC, worked with quarterbacks Payton Manning, Matthew Stafford and Trevor Lawrence in the past.

As Fowler details, Cooter has worked with some impressive quarterbacks over the years, including Peyton Manning, Matthew Stafford and Trevor Lawrence.

The Colts are in need of a new quarterback entering 2023. Cooter will be tasked with molding that quarterback into a star.
