It’s always been the key individual battles within each game that usually dictate its outcome, and this weekend’s slate of SEC games has the usual share.

And they can usually be found down in the trenches, too. Here’s a look at this weekend’s 10 best matchups in the SEC.

1. South Carolina LB Skai Moore vs. LSU RB Leonard Fournette: Moore, a junior, is a one-man wrecking crew who ranks second in the SEC in tackles with 52. With linemen from both teams engaged, he figures to be the guy most likely to greet the LSU runners at the line of scrimmage on Saturday. Fournette has taken the college world by storm as of late, becoming the first player in SEC history to rush for at least 200 yards in three consecutive games.
2. Missouri LT Connor McGovern vs. Florida DE Jonathan Bullard: The behemoth McGovern (6-foot-4, 300 pounds) has size on Bullard, but the Florida defensive end (6-foot-3, 283 pounds) gets the nod in overall quickness. Bullard currently ranks 4th in the SEC in sacks with 4.5 and is tied for 4th in the country and first in the conference in tackles for loss (9.5). Bullard and Alex McCalister will move around, but McGovern figures to have his hands full either way. Protecting true freshman quarterback Drew Lock will be the top priority for the Tigers, so the winner of this battle could well determine the game’s outcome.
3. Florida CB Vernon Hargreaves III vs. Missouri WR Nate Brown: A sure bet to hear his name called very early in next spring’s NFL Draft, Hargreaves might be the best cover corner in the country. He had his way with Ole Miss receiver Laquon Treadwell last week and will now have his eyes set on Brown for at least part of the game. Brown leads the Tigers with 17 catches for 192 yards and 4 touchdowns.
4. Arkansas RB Alex Collins vs. Alabama LB Reggie Ragland: Running the football against Alabama is no easy task, and Ragland is a big reason why. Big, strong and blessed with excellent lateral speed, the senior is the engine that makes things go for the Crimson Tide defense. The Razorbacks will look to establish their running game and avoid being one-dimensional, meaning Collins and Ragland should meet early and often.
5. Georgia WR Malcolm Mitchell vs. the Tennessee secondary: Now fully healthy again after being slowed by a knee injury, Mitchell has enjoyed a banner season so far with 23 catches for 371 yards and 3 touchdowns despite his team’s shaky quarterback play at times. He’ll face a Vols secondary that has leaked like a sieve at times this season, ranking 89th nationally and 13th in the SEC by allowing an average of 242.4 yards passing per game.
6. Florida RT Mason Halter vs. Missouri LB Kentrell Brothers: Halter, a transfer from Fordham, has done an excellent job of blending into major college football and providing desperately needed leadership to a young Gators offensive line that has played far better than anybody expected at the season’s start. But the 6-foot-6, 295-pound fifth-year senior will be tested on the edge in Brothers, the Tigers’ weakside linebacker who leads the SEC in tackles. The quicker Brothers has a great nose for the football, and his speed on the edge will be a factor.
7. Alabama NT Darren Lake vs. Arkansas C Mitch Smothers: The Crimson Tide boasts an imposing defensive front seven and Lake plays a key role in the unit consistently winning at the point of attack. The senior has gotten the best of many opponents, helping Alabama blow up opposing plays in the backfield before they have a chance to fully develop. Smothers, a senior, will have to be sound in his technique to slow him down and create some push of his own to give the Hogs offense a chance.
8. Tennessee OT Brett Kendrick vs. Georgia LB Jordan Jenkins: Kendrick is huge at 6-foot-6, 318 pounds, but the redshirt sophomore left tackle can’t be expected to slow down the much quicker Jenkins off the edge by himself. He’ll have to get plenty of help while consistently moving his feet and using his hands to force Jenkins into taking the long way around. It could be a long day for the Vols otherwise.
9. Ole Miss WR Laquon Treadwell vs. New Mexico State CB Lewis Hill: Hill might find himself at the wrong place at the wrong time as Treadwell ranks as one of the nation’s best and will likely look to rebound after a relatively quiet, 5-catch performance during last week’s 38-10 shellacking at Florida.
10. Mississippi State CB Will Redmond vs. Troy WR Bryan Holmes: Redmond leads the Bulldogs with 2 interceptions, while the speedy Holmes has recorded 16 catches that went for at least 30 yards to pace the Sun Belt Conference and rank 4th nationally over the past three seasons.
