The Southeastern Conference has produced some of the biggest names in college football. As kickoff draws near, 2014 should prove to be no exception. But there are some less familiar names on the verge of making a major impact this season. Here’s a list of 10 SEC players expected to breakout in 2014.

10. Pharoh Cooper, South Carolina, WR

Pharoh Cooper is currently listed as the No. 3 starting wide receiver on South Carolina’s depth chart. The sophomore doesn’t have the experience of fellow starters Shaq Roland and Nick Jones. What Cooper does have is versatility as he will line up in a number of positions for the Gamecocks this season. Cooper is expected to take snaps out of the wildcat formation, as well as lining up at wide receiver and fielding punt returns. The 5-foot-11, 201-pounder caught three passes for 54 yards and a touchdown, rushed for 202 yards, passed for 29 and recorded 399 returning yards on punts and kickoffs in 2013.

9. Jacob Coker, Alabama, QB

Jacob Coker will vacancy left by AJ McCarron, the winningest quarterback in Alabama history. But that’s nothing new, Coker replaced McCarron when he graduated from St. Paul’s Episcopal High School in Mobile, Alabama in 2009. After sitting behind Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston, Coker elected to transfer back to his home state. The junior faces plenty of pressure, as Alabama enter the season with its first losing streak since 2008, but has plenty of talent at skill positions and a top-tier offensive line.

8. Hutson Mason, Georgia, QB

Hutson Mason spent his entire collegiate career as the backup to SEC all-time passing leader Aaron Murray before Murray suffered a knee injury that ended his senior season. Mason faired well as Georgia’s starter, throwing for 968 yards and five touchdowns. Mason is surrounded by talent with two of the conferences top running backs in Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall, senior wide receivers Chris Conley and Michael Bennett and tight end Jay Rome.

7. Derrick Henry, Alabama, RB

The folklore of Derrick Henry continues to grow following the rising sophomore’s legendary stat line from the 2014 Sugar Bowl (eight carries, 100 yards, one touchdown, one catch, 63 yards and a receiving touchdown). However, Henry will compete with veteran backs T .J. Yeldon and Kenyan Drake. Realistically, Henry could be a standout for Alabama, but his place on the depth chart is a cause of doubt. Henry may be the most talented Tide running back, but he will have to share the football with two veterans.

6. D’Haquille Williams, Auburn, WR

D’Haquille Williams was the No. 1 JUCO player in the 2014 recruiting class. The redshirt sophomore had 2028 yards and 26 touchdowns on 118 receptions over a two-year span. Williams will join the dangerous Sammie Coates in a high-powered Auburn offense looking to repeat as SEC Champions.

5. Laquon Treadwell, Ole Miss, WR

Laquon Treadwell led Ole Miss with 72 receptions as a freshman last season. He added 608 yards and five touchdowns on 8.4 yards per catch. With the absence of Donte Moncrief, Treadwell will likely see a greater role in the Rebels offense this season.

4. Jonathan Allen, Alabama, DE

Jonathan Allen entered his career at Alabama as a five-star outside linebacker prospect. Despite limited action, Allen managed to record 16 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss and a forced fumble. Allen is expected to have a larger role this season and many close to the program believe he has the potential to be the next great Alabama defensive player.

3. Ricky Seals-Jones, Texas A&M, WR

In the absence of Mike Evans, Ricky Seals-Jones is expected to emerge as a top wide receiver for the Aggies. Seals-Jones was a five-star athlete for the 2013 recruiting class and will be paired with Speedy Noil, the top wide receiver prospect for the 2014 class. If freshman quarterback Kenny Hill excels, Seals-Jones will be a major factor in his progression.

2. Marquez North, Tennessee, WR

Marquez North enjoyed a stellar first season in Knoxville filled with highlight catches in big games. North relied heavilty on natural raw talent and improved as the season continued. With the acquisition of JUCO All-American Von Pearson and five-star wide receiver Josh Malone, North will assume the role of No. 1 receiver and will have plenty of talent to keep defenders occupied. With high expectations, North should make the lead from freshman All-SEC team to an elite superstar.

1. Robert Nkemdiche, Ole Miss, DE/DT

Robert Nkemdiche was the unanimous No. 1 prospect for the 2013 recruiting class. Nkemdiche played in 11 games with 10 starts (six at DE, four at DT), missing two games with a strained hamstring. The blue chipper posted 34 tackles (25 solo), 2.0 sacks, two pass breakups and three QB hurries in his first season. Year two is expected to provide plenty of examples why Nkemdiche was the can’t miss prospect of 2013. With a year of experience, Nkemdiche should be the biggest breakout star in the SEC this season.
