For every Cam Robinson, Leonard Fournette, Jamal Adams and Nick Chubb, there’s another highly-touted high school recruit who simply doesn’t pan out.

In 2014, the above stars signed with SEC schools, kicking off their long, illustrious college careers (some of which aren’t over quite yet).

However, there were plenty of other highly-rated 4- and 5-star recruits who haven’t made the kinds of contributions their classmates have.

Here, we’ll take a look at 10 top 2014 SEC recruits who didn’t quite live up to their potential coming out of high school.

5-star OLB Clifton Garrett, LSU: Clifton Garrett played in only three games for the Tigers in 2014 before missing the rest of the season with a shoulder injury.

Following that year, he transferred to Arizona Western College, a JUCO. In 2016, he was supposed to suit up for UAB, but didn’t have the grades necessary to return to the Division I level.

His status for 2017 has yet to be determined, but it’s looking unlikely that the once-promising No. 2 overall outside linebacker will live up to his 2014 potential.

5-star RB Roc Thomas, Auburn: Thomas, a former 5-star recruit out of Alabama, was set to compete for Auburn’s starting running back job this season.

However, the talented back, who had amassed 475 yards and three touchdowns in limited action in 2014 and 2015, decided to transfer rather than battle Jovon Robinson (who also ended up leaving the program) for the starting job.

With Jacksonville State in 2016, the former Alabama Mr. Football finished with 782 yards and seven touchdowns on 127 carries. Much more was expected from the No. 23 player in the 2014 class.

4-star QBs Will Grier and Treon Harris, Florida: Florida’s 2014 quarterback class had so much promise with the commitments of Grier and Harris.

However, after a PED suspension for Grier led him to transfer to West Virginia. It was a messy divorce from the Florida program that saw Grier throw some parting barbs at coach Jim McElwain.

Harris, on the other hand, lost his starting job to Grier during the 2015 season before regaining it following the PED suspension. Still, he couldn’t hold on, losing the job to transfer Luke Del Rio prior to the 2016 season, leading to his decision to transfer.

4-star WR Trey Quinn, LSU: Quinn was the No. 10 overall 2014 receiver coming out of high school in Louisiana.

He signed with his home-state Tigers, but failed to do much on the field, recording only 22 catches for 276 yards and no touchdowns in 2014 and 2015.

He transferred to SMU following the 2015 season and will suit up for the Mustangs as a redshirt junior in 2017.

4-star QB David Cornwell, Alabama: Cornwell came to Tuscaloosa as the No. 4 pro-style passer in the 2014 class, but quickly found himself a forgotten man in Lane Kiffin’s offense.

In 2016, Cornwell saw the writing on the wall, as he and fellow pro-style passers Blake Barnett and Cooper Bateman were pushed aside for dual-threat star Jalen Hurts, a true freshman.

All three quarterbacks decided to transfer, and Cornwell will join the Nevada Wolf Pack in 2017 to try to take the next step in his college career.

4-star WR Cam Sims, Alabama: At Alabama, talented players often have to sit until they become upperclassmen simply because there is so much talent on the field.

Therefore, Sims still has a chance to live up to his potential, when he was the No. 12 overall receiver in the class of 2014 coming out of Louisiana.

However, Sims will only have one year left to prove he was worth his high rating. Through three seasons in Tuscaloosa, the receiver has caught only 27 passes for 260 yards and a touchdown.

4-star WR Shaq Davidson, South Carolina: Davidson came into Columbia with huge expectations as the top Gamecocks’ receiver in the 2014 class.

However, it wasn’t meant to be, as Davidson never recorded a catch for South Carolina in his brief tenure with the squad.

Davidson played for Jacksonville State in 2016, recording only four catches for 39 yards in a highly disappointing season.

4-star WR Jojo Robinson, Arkansas: Robinson was a 4-star athlete coming out of high school, but never quite materialized for Bret Bielema and the Razorbacks and transferred.

In limited action in 2014, Robinson caught six passes for 53 yards.

The Miami native has yet to resurface on the major college football scene since his dismissal from Arkansas.

4-star DT Bijhon Jackson, Arkansas: Jackson came into Fayetteville as the No. 5 overall defensive tackle and the No. 1 recruit from Arkansas in the 2014 class.

However, he’s failed to live up to expectations so far, recording only 25 tackles through three seasons. He got some pressure on the quarterback in 2016, but still only recorded 2.5 sacks in seven games.

For an Arkansas defense that has been gutted by the run in recent years, Jackson’s lack of production has been a huge disappointment for Bielema and his staff.
