The SEC East is on the come-up, evidenced by the division’s flawless bowl season compared to its Western brethren.

RELATED: SEC West instant impact true freshman

Several teams are restocking the cupboard with instant playmakers on both sides of the ball. Here are a few who could be impact talents as true freshmen in 2015:

  • Tennessee — DT Kahlil McKenzie: The Vols plucked the nation’s second highest-rated defensive tackle out of Concord, Calif., and he won’t disappoint as a 6-foot-3, 350-pound mountain made of concrete. McKenzie has strength beyond his years and in a situational role, could be a force along one of the SEC’s top defensive lines this fall.
  • South Carolina — LB Sherrod Pittman: Defensive line is the Gamecocks’ obvious weakness on defense, but this four-star incoming linebacker from Jacksonville, Fla., will be too athletic when he arrives on campus to keep on the sidelines. A player with great instincts, Pittman should fit in nicely alongside Skai Moore and Jonathan Walton in Lorenzo Ward’s base.
  • Mizzou — ATH Marquise Doherty: It’s obvious Mizzou’s most important target still remaining is five-star defensive lineman Terry Beckner Jr., but you can expect this four-star athlete to also receive some early burn within a receiving corps decimated by senior departures. Doherty has great size at 6-foot-1, 190 pounds and could be a multi-level threat much like Marcus Murphy was for the Tigers.
  • Georgia — S Rashad Roundtree: One of a handful of safeties expected to sign in February, Roundtree arguably has the biggest upside of any of the incoming Bulldogs in the secondary and will likely be utilized as a freshman by DC Jeremy Pruitt.
