There are always surprises on National Signing Day and here are the five biggest ones around the Southeastern Conference for 2016.

Jeffery Simmons to Mississippi State: Most had the five-star rated Simmons heading to Ole Miss or Alabama, but the Bulldogs pulled off a much-needed surprise commit from an elite defensive line prospect.

Trayvon Mullen to Clemson: LSU felt very confident that they would land Mullen out of south Florida, but he elected to go to Clemson, where he said his heart was. This was probably a smart move if he wanted to have a clearer path to playing early given Clemson’s losses in the secondary.

E.J. Price to Southern California: The Trojans snuck into the Atlanta area and pulled the athletic offensive tackle away from Georgia and Auburn. It was anticipated that he would stay in the SEC heading into signing day.

Tyrie Cleveland to Florida: Though it was thought that he would flip from Houston, most believed that TCU was the team to beat and that the Lone Star State prospect would not go that far from home. It was a great job by the Gators to get another game-breaker on offense.

Stephon Taylor to South Carolina: The Gamecocks haven’t signed a prospect out of New Orleans in a while (in fact, most can’t remember the last time), but Will Muschamp and staff landed Taylor, who also had offers from Texas and Florida State, among others. Nobody expected that to happen.
