Spring practice may be running full force for 13 of 14 SEC schools, but we all know it’s just a tease making us anxious to make it to the fall.

By the middle of next week, we’ll be five months away from the Sept. 3 season opener, with South Carolina (vs. North Carolina) among the first teams to play on that Thursday.

That leaves us several long months to slog through before that time. What will we do in the meantime to occupy our craving for sports entertainment? We’ve got some suggestions.

For the love of all things football, feel free to leave a few of your own.

APRIL: MLB OPENING DAY

Countdown: 5 months

The St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs kick off start the season Aug. 5 (sorry, we’ll still be thinking football). The good news is if you’re a fan of the Atlanta Braves, Tampa Bay Rays, Houston Astros or any other MLB team in or near SEC country, it’s an odd-numbered year. That means there’s hope the San Francisco Giants won’t mow down the rest of the league as the team has done in 2010, 2012 and 2014.

MLB is a long, long season, but there’s always an initial jolt of interest as basketball winds down and football is still months away.

MAY: NFL DRAFT

Countdown: 4 months

OK, NFL, you got us here. We were headed to New York in May and you threw us a looping curve, moving the draft to Chicago in April.

But by the time the first round ends late on a Thursday evening, it’ll be May. Rounds two through seven take place in the traditional draft month, so we’re still counting it. Plus, this gives SEC fans a chance to watch plenty of highlight reels of players like Dante Fowler Jr., Amari Cooper and Shane Ray.

Hey, we’ve got to find some way to get through the summer, right?

JUNE: NBA FINALS

Countdown: 3 months

This year’s Finals begin June 4.

Can LeBron James repeat his 2011 feat, winning an Eastern Conference title in his first year with a new team? Will the San Antonio Spurs make a third consecutive Finals? Or will the upstarts — Golden State, Atlanta, Memphis — continue their regular-season dominance?

It’s not quite as compelling as the NHL playoffs, the best in major American professional sports — whether or not you even watch it — but it’s hard to beat NBA playoff basketball.

JULY: BRITISH OPEN

Countdown: 2 months

What, you were expecting the Tour de France?

OK, this one does come with a big caveat. If Rory McIlroy can win The Masters in April, he’ll have claimed three consecutive majors in addition to a career grand slam. That would make the British Open — his home event, so to speak — an opportunity for him to own every major championship in golf at the same time.

Can you say Tiger who?

AUGUST: 2015 TRACK & FIELD WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Countdown: 1 month

I’m biased here, but I think watching, say, Usain Bolt compete in the 100-meter dash at a major championship is interesting even if it’s not the Olympics.

Speaking of which, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, hosts the 2016 Summer Olympics, and given that they take place less than a year after these championships in late August, expect all the world’s best track athletes to be sharp. The next major competitions will be building toward the Olympic Trials and Rio, so performing well here is a big confidence boost.

If you enjoy watching the NFL Combine, this is even better.
