In the interest of good football, can Georgia and Vanderbilt switch permanent partners?

What I really want to see today, I doubt I’ll get to, which means I might not ever.

I want to see Ole Miss’ Shea Patterson and Georgia’s Jacob Eason sling it. Nothing against Chad Kelly, he’s always exceptionally entertaining, but we’ve seen him do his thing. Unfortunately, Georgia and Ole Miss are only rotating partners, and their paths won’t cross again until 2023 unless it’s in Atlanta.

Vanderbilt and Auburn every year makes more sense anyway, at least from a schematic standpoint.

As for things we might actually see today, here are the 5 I’m looking forward to the most:

1. Tennessee ending The Streak/Vols fans’ reaction if they don’t: Good news is, one is guaranteed to happen and neither is likely safe for work.

Emotions will be running as high as the mountaintops Saturday afternoon in Knoxville.

Buyouts are moot — merely the cost of doing business when the SEC is cutting each school an annual check north of $30 million. Buyouts won’t save a coach anymore. Those days are as far gone as Blockbuster.

Winning sure helps though. And no win will mean more to Jones or his Vols this year than one Saturday over Florida.

I also want to see the Vols offense I saw in Tampa. The unstoppa-Vols.

2. Jalen Hurts’ first career 300-yard passing game: Alabama’s true freshman is not Robert Griffin III, so let’s not try to turn him into that. Yes, he can make plays with his legs — Alabama needed every one of his 146 yards rushing last week — but he’s a thrower first. Dial up the vertical game early, and go back to it often.

The score is irrelevant. Alabama will beat Kent State by 30+ whether he throws for 30 or 300. Alabama is just so much more fun to watch this year when it’s winning games because of its quarterback’s arm.

3. Postgame reaction to LSU-Auburn: Tammy from Clanton probably has Finebaum on speed dial already, but this game is more critical to Les Miles’ future. He simply can’t start 2-2. This is an absolute must-win for him and his Tigers.

4. Texas A&M’s coming out party: The Aggies are No. 10 and rising quickly — yet quietly. The same can be said of their opponent Saturday, No. 17 Arkansas — at least whenever Bret Bielema doesn’t have a mic in his hands.

Neither team was ranked in the preseason. Now both believe they can compete with Alabama and win the West.

This could easily be the best game Saturday — better even than Ole Miss-Georgia — but my hunch is that Texas A&M takes control early and turns Myles Garrett loose in the second half and rolls to its second victory in September over a Top 20 team.

5. OK, Jacob Eason vs. Chad Kelly: I want 100 combined passes. I want 700 combined yards. I want go routes and 15-yard penalties for 6-inch shuffle passes on what used to be jet sweep handoffs.

I want defensive ends with their hands on their hips, and defensive backs with their hands in the air, defeated, defenseless.

I want 52-49 without any overtimes. What I want is to watch the two purest passers in the SEC have one of those days we’ll remember for the next 20 years.
