The rivalry between Alabama head coach Nick Saban and Georgia head coach Kirby Smart not only takes place on the field, but also in the realm of recruiting as well.

The Bulldogs are recruiting at an exceptionally high level. The year 2017 is Smart’s first full recruiting class, and he’s done a fantastic job thus far.

According to 247Sports, Georgia currently has the No. 3 recruiting class in the country. With less than a month until National Signing Day, there’s still time for the Bulldogs to improve upon this standing.

It also means Smart and his staff can recruit players committed to other programs. Markail Benton is an example of such a prospect. An Alabama commitment, Benton announced on Twitter that he will official visit Athens on Jan. 12:

A 4-star linebacker out of Phenix City, Ala., Benton committed to the Crimson Tide this past June. He will visit Alabama officially on Jan. 20, and Auburn is still sniffing around as a possibility.

Aside from the fact Benton is an excellent prospect, this recruitment speaks to Georgia’s willingness to compete with the juggernaut that is Alabama. If Georgia can translate this sort of success on the field, the two programs may ultimately become fiercer rivals on the recruiting trails.
