SEC Media Days is fun because there’s always some strong statements being made, and Day 4 in Hoover, Ala., certainly provided us with a few.

LSU, Ole Miss and South Carolina were on the docket, and here’s a look at the quotes that stood out from the players/coaches in attendance on Thursday.

LES MILES

We’ve got to lead off with some quotes from Les Miles because he gave us some good ones.

1. “I don’t know. I think really being called a dean, I should probably get like a robe, right, and maybe a hat that maybe sits to the side and maybe my hanging cloth could be, you know, kind of dressed up some. That would be nice.”

If anybody can make sense of this Miles quote, leave a comment below. Otherwise, we’re totally confused along with a lot of other people.

2. “But I was catching her (his 13-year-old daughter Macy) in flip-flops, and that’s a mistake. You never – anybody that’s a parent or want-to-be parent, you never catch a son, pitcher, or female fast-pitch softball pitcher in flip-flops. Let me take it back. Flip-flops and a can. Because when you sit on the can, you put your feet on the can, and it’s an obvious position to be hit. So I broke two toes in my right foot catching her. So I went to Cuba, and Cuba is a communist country, and that was kind of the reason that I went.

LEONARD FOURNETTE

LSU’s running back kept it classy, not changing his tune from a season ago when he dubbed Georgia running back Nick Chubb as the best back in the conference.

4. “I still feel that way.”

CHAD KELLY

The Rebels quarterback was talking about “his boy” LSU quarterback Brandon Harris and how Harris FaceTimes him video of the stadium while he’s in front of it to let him see the stadium he’ll be visiting this season. In the middle of a respectful answer, Kelly took a jab at his former school in Clemson by calling LSU’s Tiger Stadium “the real Death Valley.” This is what he said when asked to clarify that.

6. “The real Death Valley. Yes, sir. The real Death Valley with the 100,000. Yes, sir.”

WILL MUSCHAMP

South Carolina’s first-year coach had to make sure everyone at Media Days didn’t confuse him for the Head Ball Coach.

7. “I’m going to go ahead and tell you. I’m going to disappoint you now. I’m not as entertaining as him. You don’t need to write an article about it tomorrow morning. There’s only one Steve Spurrier in life, and I’m not it.”

He also had to put another thing to rest, and that was his football game with Georgia coach Kirby Smart.

8. “He put 12 guys on the field, not 10. Because I made the statement this is not the Canadian (Football) League, and if we could play with 12, we’re going to play really good defense.”

HUGH FREEZE

As expected, Ole Miss’ coach had a rough day. Here’s the analogy he used to describe how it feels during this current NCAA investigation.

8. “I don’t like it. It’s like making a cake. I don’t like taking a raw egg or baking soda. Those don’t taste good. But when the final product is done, it tastes really, really good. And it doesn’t taste good right now …”
