It definitely pays to win — especially in the SEC West. For winning the SEC East last year, Florida coach Jim McElwain recently received a $750,000 raise, which bumps his annual salary to $4.25 million and makes him the highest-paid coach in the division.

But that hefty figure pales in comparison with what McElwain’s peers make on the other side of the conference. Entering the 2016 season, the average combined salary of the SEC West’s head coaches, offensive coordinators and defensive coordinators is a whopping $6.76 million, which doesn’t even include what the rest of the assistants will earn.

Among SEC East teams, that average is just 4.87 million — more than $1.8 mil less. Alabama’s trio of Nick Saban, Lane Kiffin and Jeremy Pruitt leads the conference with a total combined salary of $9.07 million, and is ahead of Texas A&M ($7.3 million), LSU ($6.09 million) and Auburn ($6.07).

All of those figures are higher than the $5.78 million Tennessee’s Butch Jones, Mike DeBord and Bob Shoop will combine to make in 2016, which leads the SEC East.

New Missouri coach Barry Odom and coordinators Josh Heupel and DeMontie Cross are slated to earn $3.65 million, the lowest total in the SEC, and no other East team will pay less than the $4.45 million new head coach Kirby Smart and coordinators Jim Chaney and Mel Tucker will earn this year.

Six teams from each division were used to determine the average salaries. Because Vanderbilt is a private institution, its salary information is not available; Mississippi State was not included because the 2016 salary of new defensive coordinator Peter Sirmon is not available.

You can the find the 2016 salaries for each SEC coach here. Here are the expected 2016 incomes for each SEC school’s head coach and its coordinators, beginning with the East.
