Comparing the AP and Coaches Polls -- Week 14
The major polls released Sunday afternoon and the College Football Playoff committee are agreed on the top four teams entering next weekend’s conference championship games, though in slightly different order.
The AP Poll agrees with the committee, ranking the top four in order: Clemson, Alabama, Oklahoma and Iowa.
The Coaches Poll reverses the order of Nos. 3 and 4, placing Iowa ahead of Oklahoma.
There’s some good news for the SEC. LSU rejoined the top 25 with its victory over Texas A&M, which also may have saved Les Miles’ job, at No. 23 in both polls. Florida fell to No. 5 in the Coaches Poll and No. 18 in the AP Poll.
Ole Miss jumped to No. 16 in the AP Poll and No. 17 in the Coaches Poll. Georgia was No. 26 in the Coaches rankings with Tennessee (34) and Texas A&M (37) also garnering votes. Mississippi State, Nos. 22 and 23 in the polls last week, dropped out.
Next week’s key games include Clemson against North Carolina in the ACC title game and Iowa against Michigan State for the Big Ten championship.
