Trevor Lawrence spoiled the hopes of several schools across the SEC in December when the Cartersville, Ga., 5-star pro-style quarterback committed to Clemson. That meant Georgia and Tennessee, among others, would go in a different direction for their 2018 recruiting class.

Lawrence is rated the top pro-style quarterback in the country in the 2018 class by 247Sports, and given those rankings, the SEC has work to do. Only three schools — Arkansas, Vanderbilt and Texas A&M — have landed a quarterback ranked in the top 20. The SEC has lost out, so far, to four Pac-12 schools and Oklahoma for highly rated signal-callers.

So where does the SEC stand otherwise? Here is a breakdown of targets and where each team stands for quarterback recruits in 2018:

Alabama: The Crimson Tide have offered 10 recruits, but seven of them are already reportedly committed to other programs. Among the uncommitted recruits, according to 247Sports, dual-threat prospect Gerry Bohanon is the only one who’s warmed to the Tide.

Arkansas: Just five offers have gone out from the Razorbacks, but they appear to have a solid chance to land home-state QB Gerry Bohanon, though Alabama, Auburn and Ole Miss are also contenders for Bohanon. The Razorbacks have a pro-style prospect in the fold already with 4-star Connor Noland of Greenwood, Ark. He’s ranked the top player in Arkansas, ahead of Bohanon, and committed to the Razorbacks in July.

Auburn: The Tigers have offered just three quarterbacks, but they’re in at a “warm” level with Gerry Bohanan of Earle, Ark., and have landed a commitment from 4-star Joey Gatewood of Jacksonville, Fla., who is listed as an athlete by 247 sports. Gatewood’s pledge has survived the coaching change at offensive coordinator from Rhett Lashlee to Chip Lindsey.

Florida: The Gators are looking to flip Penn State commit Justin Fields, a 4-star dual-threat prospect from Kennesaw, Ga. He’s among six QBs the Gators have offered. But that doesn’t include Joe Milton, a 3-star from Orlando, Fla., who has seen his stock rise in recent days following a standout performance at The Opening, the Tallahassee Democrat reported.

Georgia: So far, the Bulldogs have lost out to Clemson in the competition for 5-star Trevor Lawrence from Cartersville, Ga. The other pro-style QB recruit Georgia has reportedly offered is Tanner McKee, listed as a 4-star from Corona, Calif. Six dual-threat quarterbacks have offers from Georgia, including Emory Jones of Franklin, Ga.; Justin Fields of Kennesaw, Ga.; Dakereon Joyer of Charleston, S.C.; Jalen Mayden of Sachse, Texas; Gerry Bohanon of Earle, Ark.; and Justin Rogers of Bossier City, La. Jones is a 5-star and the rest are 4-stars.

Kentucky: The Wildcats not only have a QB commitment, they’re considered “warm” for a 3-star pro-style prospect from Washington, D.C., Kevin Doyle. For now, Jarren Williams holds the spotlight as a 3-star dual threat recruit from Lawrenceville, Ga. Williams committed to the Wildcats in June as their first commit of this class, and though he recently visited Tennessee, Williams appears solid to Kentucky for now.

LSU: The Tigers appear in position to land either local Justin Rogers of Bossier City, La., or Artur Sitkowski of IMG Academy. Though they’ve extended nine offers, most are familiar faces and top-ranked prospects, and four are committed elsewhere. The recent coaching turnover on the Tigers’ staff was a main reason cited for the program losing the commitment of Zadock Dinkelmann of Somerset, Texas, who committed to LSU early in 2014.

Mississippi State: Jaylen Mayden of Sachse, Texas, is “warm” to the Bulldogs, but he’s just one of 12 offers they’ve extended to quarterbacks. Mayden is a 4-star dual-threat player at 6-foot-2, 215 pounds. Dan Mullen and Co., who seem to have a penchant for mobile quarterbacks, have made offers to nine dual-threat prospects and three pro-style QBs. The pro-style guys  have all committed elsewhere.

Missouri: The Tigers have offered 19 quarterbacks so far, but have not offered the top in-state QB recruit, Kaleb Eleby, who has offers from low-level Big Ten schools. It’s reportedly a bumper crop of talent in the Show Me State in 2018, but quarterback is not one of those deep positions.

Ole Miss: The Rebels have so far extended offers to 15 QB prospects, but only six are uncommitted. Ole Miss doesn’t appear to have an edge to land any of them, but Artur Sitkowski, a 4-star pro-style prospect, plays at IMG Academy, the same school that produced current Ole Miss QB Shea Patterson. With Patterson, and two recent QB signees, not to mention the NCAA violations pending, it looks to be an uphill battle to land a QB for this class.

South Carolina: The Gamecocks have to feel they have a solid chance to land at least one of the 11 QB prospects they’ve offered, because Dakereon Joyner hails from North Charleston, S.C. The 6-2, 200-pound 4-star is the third-ranked player in the Palmetto State in this class and considered “warm” to the Gamecocks. South Carolina is also listed as “warm” by 247 Sports with Joe Milton, a 3-star pro-style prospect from Orlando, Fla. Six of the 11 QBs they’ve offered are uncommitted.

Tennessee: The Vols have offered a whopping 14 quarterback recruits for this class, including 10 dual-threat prospects. Yet only two are “warm” to the Vols, Michael Penix of Tampa, Fla., a 3-star pro-style QB, and Justin Rogers, a 4-star dual-threat QB from Bossier City, La. The Vols have made a flurry of offers in recent weeks, including to popular prospects like Gerry Bohanon, who picked up an LSU offer the next day.

Texas A&M: The Aggies have offered seven quarterbacks, and already have a commit from Cade Fortin of Suwanee, Ga. Fortin hails from the same area, Gwinnett County, that produced last year’s No. 1 quarterback, Davis Mills, who went to Stanford; a Clemson signee, Chase Brice; and a Kentucky commit, Jarren Williams of Lawrenceville, Ga. Fortin is a 3-star recruit and listed at 6-2, 207 pounds. He’s the 13th-ranked pro-style QB in this class, and No. 34-ranked player in Georgia for the 2018 class. One of the earliest commits of this class, Fortin made his pledge in August.

Vanderbilt: The Commodores already have a commit from 4-star pro-style recruit Allan Walters of Hightstown, N.J. He has at least 17 offers, but pledged with Vanderbilt in December. The Commodores already have four QBs on their roster, and the 247 Sports Crystal Ball said it’s more likely he lands at Alabama or Ole Miss. Walters, who suffered a lower body injury early in the 2016 season, was the No. 17 recruit in the NJ.com Top 50, but the top-ranked quarterback in New Jersey’s recruiting class of 2018.
