They won’t get counted on the SEC’s tally of 51 draftees, but three former SEC players were among the 253 selections in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Former Florida quarterback Jacoby Brissett was the first SEC transfer to go, with the New England Patriots selecting him in the third round with pick No. 91. Brissett signed with Florida as part of the class of 2011 – Will Muschamp’s first class – and was the target of offensive coordinator Charlie Weis. After being the backup in 2012, Brissett decided to transfer to North Carolina State.

The reason for Brissett’s transfer was Jeff Driskel winning the starting job in ’12, when the Gators posted an 11-2 record. Little did Brissett know, Driskel’s career at Florida was about to go south.

In his third year at UF, Driskel broke his leg and missed the majority of the 2013 season. The following season, Driskel was benched and lost his job to Treon Harris. Driskel played his final season at Louisiana Tech this fall as a graduate transfer. San Francisco selected Driskel with pick No. 207 in the sixth round.

Former Auburn OL Christian Westerman transferred to Arizona State following the Tigers’ 3-9 season in 2012 that led to dismissal of coach Gene Chizik. The Cincinatti Bengals selected Westerman in the fifth round with pick No. 161.
