Don’t bother making New Year’s Eve plans this year.

The College Football Playoff announced the dates and start times for the two playoff semifinals and the other four New Year’s Six bowl games on Tuesday. Both semis will be played on New Year’s Eve, with three of the remaining four games to be played on New Year’s Day.

Here’s the full schedule:

Thursday, Dec. 31

  • 12 p.m. ET: Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl
  • 4 p.m. ET: College Football Playoff semifinal No. 1
  • 8 p.m. ET: College Football Playoff semifinal No. 2

Friday, Jan. 1

  • 1 p.m. ET: Fiesta Bowl
  • 5 p.m. ET: Rose Bowl
  • 8:30 p.m. ET: Allstate Sugar Bowl

This year’s CFP semifinal hosts are the Cotton Bowl and Orange Bowl.

Last year, things were flipped, with the two semifinal games both kicking off as the final two games of New Year’s Day, preceded by the Cotton Bowl (two other bowl games were also played on New Year’s Day, as will be the case this year). New Year’s Eve featured three of the New Year’s Six games, including the Orange Bowl with Mississippi State and the Peach Bowl with Ole Miss.

While there may be complaints about the starts for two of the season’s most important games on a night where many would like to be out partying, there are contractual obligations to two of the NY6 games that dictate the kickoffs.

Last year, the New Year’s Eve NY6 games served to build hype for the semifinals; this year, there may be a letdown after the semifinals come before the rest of the headlining bowls. Television ratings will probably be fine, but it’s something that officials will likely have in the back of their minds.
