Georgia defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt is a potential candidate to succeed Steve Spurrier at South Carolina, according to 247sports.

The website is reporting that sources indicate Pruitt has a recommendation from former Bulldogs coach Mark Richt, and he’s communicated with the Gamecocks about the position.

Pruitt, 41, has been a part of three national championship teams, including two with Alabama (2011-12) and one as the defensive coordinator at Florida State in 2013. As defensive coordinator at FSU, Pruitt helped guide the Seminoles to an unbeaten season and the 2013 BCS National Championship.

Florida State’s defense ended the season ranked 1st among FBS teams in scoring defense (12.1 points per game) and 3rd in total defense (281.4 yards per game).
