Tom Herman, one of the most sought after coaching candidates in the country, is close to remaining at Houston.

Herman has “agreed in principle” to a contract extension, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Herman broke the news at his news conference Monday.

“We are moving in the right direction,” Herman told reporters Monday.

Herman has been mentioned as a candidate at several high profile jobs, including South Carolina and Georgia.

He led Houston to the American Athletic Conference West Division championship. The Cougars (11-1) are ranked No. 17 in the AP Top 25 Poll.
