Not happy with a four-team Playoff?

More football is good, so we’ve decided to expand the season by several weeks with the introduction of the SDS 64, a ‘Winter Madness’ style tournament with an emphasis on conference championships, strength of schedule and any factors we see fit.

Each region has its own theme, dominant teams and laughable neutral site hosts. Hint: 12 SEC teams made the field.

AND THEN THERE WERE FOUR

Storylines: It appears the College Football Playoff committee’s first-year selections were darn close to our projections despite considerably fewer teams. The only difference is second-seeded Ole Miss who knocked off No. 4 Mizzou in the Elite 8 to claim a prized spot. Defending champion Florida State couldn’t survive what became an SEC gauntlet in the Crab Legs Region.

Elite 8 scores: No. 1 Alabama 38, No. 2 TCU 35; No. 1 Ohio State 28, No. 2 Mississippi St. 24; No. 1 Oregon 52, No. 2 Baylor 34; No. 2 Ole Miss 20, No. 4 Mizzou 13.

Most impressive stat lines: Top-seeded Oregon won its fourth straight game by 18 or more points, eliminating No. 2 Baylor behind five more touchdown passes from Marcus Mariota who now has 17 in the tournament. Alabama’s Amari Cooper was too much for TCU’s secondary, finishing with nine catches for 199 yards and two scores against the Horned Frogs.
