How many SEC teams are stacked in the early going for the 2016 recruiting cycle?

The usual suspects are out front, but Ole Miss and Kentucky are both making a push to land consensus Top 10 classes if each program can get a couple more big-names prior to National Signing Day.

Kentucky’s been arguably the SEC’s most impressive on the recruiting trail in recent weeks, landing a couple offensive linemen who will be immediate impact players for Mark Stoops and Co.

Addressing needs is priority No. 1 each recruiting season and there are a couple teams ranked within the Top 15 nationally for next year’s class who have done just that with quality ‘bundles’ — three-player groups.

Alabama’s welcomed five consecutive No. 1 classes to Tuscaloosa but surprisingly, does not have a five-star commit as of yet as part of its 18-player group at this time. The Crimson Tide is ranked fourth nationally and second in the SEC.

Individual player ratings are based on 247Sports’ Composite rankings.

SEC’s best 2016 recruiting bundles

LSU (DT, CB, LB) — Edwin Alexander, Saivion Smith, Erick Fowler: Kevin Steele is reloading his defense with a star-studded 2016 class, highlighted by five-stars Alexander, Smith and four-star linebacker Fowler. LSU has received pledges from immediate impact players at each level of the defense, something it didn’t manage to do last season despite the nation’s fifth-best class. This cycle’s 17-player haul is currently ranked No. 1 in the country and also fills a major need at quarterback in Elite 11 standout Feleipe Franks.

Ole Miss (QB, WR, TE) — Shea Patterson, DeKaylin Metcalf, Octavious Cooley: A five-star passer whose drawn early comparisons to Eli Manning, a four-star athletic receiver and a rangy four-star tight end. From an outsider’s perspective, I’d say Hugh Freeze has done his homework offensively this cycle (there’s a four-star RB commit too in Justin Connor). Metcalf, Mississippi’s top-rated player at his position, is 6-foot-3 with good speed and above average strength who owns the look of a future No. 1 wideout. He’s expected to take an official visit to Alabama later this year and has been committed to the Rebels since June 8.

Georgia (QB, OT, WR) — Jacob Eason, Ben Cleveland, Darion Anderson: You could go defensive line here where the Bulldogs have pledges from five-star tackle Julian Rochester and two four-star pass rushers (Chauncey Manac and Tyler Clark), but offensively is where Georgia will really benefit from a quality three-player bundle next season. Not only have the Bulldogs secured a strong commitment from Eason, the nation’s top-ranked quarterback, but they’re also bringing in a potential blindside protector in massive tackle Ben Cleveland and have a future weapon on the outside with Anderson.

Kentucky (OT, C, OT) — Landon Young, Drake Jackson, Tate Leavitt (JUCO): Mark Stoops is building quite a program up front in his 2016 class, a 20-commit group currently ranked an impressive 14th nationally and fifth in the SEC. Four-star Army All-Americans Young (tackle) and Jackson (center) are rated the first and second-best players at their respective positions in-state while Leavitt should battle for an immediate starting spot at tackle from the JUCO ranks. Leavitt had offers from Alabama and Auburn among several others before choosing the Wildcats over the weekend. Now, the search for playmakers begins.
