When it comes to college football, Alabama residents are by far the most passionate fans in the United States.

SEC states represent seven of the top 11, as measured by the percentage of Facebook users who “like” college football.

According to data published by the New York Times, almost 34 percent of Alabama Facebook users were fans of a college football team, about 5 percent more than second-place state Nebraska.

Arkansas (No. 4), South Carolina (No. 6), Kentucky (No. 7), Mississippi (No. 8), Louisiana (No. 9) and Tennessee (No. 11) all rank high on the list.

Missouri ranks the lowest of any SEC-affiliated state as just 11 percent of the state’s Facebook users “like” a college football team.

Nebraska and Oklahoma love college football as well, but the epicenter of the sport remains Alabama, as you can tell by the abundance of purple and pink in the surrounding areas.

Interestingly, Texas ranks 23rd despite an uptick near the campuses of Texas A&M, Baylor and Texas Tech. (Travis County residents, which includes Austin, Texas, only rated at 19 percent.) Less than 10 percent of residents in most California counties are college football fans.
