There have been some impressive winning streaks during this SEC season, but what 2015 is going to be most remembered for are the epic collapses of several teams, programs and coaches.

There have been some monumental flame-outs.

Some have been like a car crash, where you just can’t look away. The struggles have been sad, but fascinating to watch unfold. The lucky ones were able to climb out of their hole, but the mark of their losing streak still remains on their permanent record.

Asking why losing streaks happen usually never yields a clear cut-and-dry answer. But they are interesting to examine. It’s not always the team’s fault because it’s often an opponent imposing their will and there’s nothing you can do about it.

That’s happened a lot this year, season-crushers showing up to wreck your year and put your program on red-alert that changes might need to be made.

Who are these culprits? We’ve been able to easily identify a few top season-crushers from 2015:

ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE

Responsible for crushing seasons at: Georgia, LSU
As the most dominant team in the SEC, this should come as no surprise. Alabama doled out a whole bunch of losses this year, but none more deadly than to Georgia and LSU. After opening their season with four straight wins, the Bulldogs were slammed at home by the Tide, 38-10. They never recovered, following that up with losses to Tennessee and Florida and falling out of the SEC East race even though they were heavy favorites to win it. Georgia’s streak is technically only two games because they etched out a 9-6 win over Missouri between the three October losses, but even that win felt ugly and disparaging. The attitude in Athens took a huge nosedive and the Bulldogs are still trying to recover from all the negativity.

As for LSU, they were blown away by Alabama in the third most-watched game of college football this season. That’s embarrassment at a very high and very public level. After that 30-16 loss, LSU has gone on to lose to Arkansas and Ole Miss. Some called their Arkansas loss as just a hangover resulting from the Alabama game, but now people are not so sure that’s all it is. Will LSU make it four losses in a row against Texas A&M? It’s hard to imagine, especially since the Tigers were ranked No. 2 in the country when this month started after starting 7-0. Alabama exposed them, and the program has been in a free-fall ever since.

AUBURN TIGERS

Responsible for: Kentucky
Unlike their in-state counterpart, Auburn itself has struggled to win this year. However, that didn’t stop the Tigers from spearheading the most catastrophic fall in the SEC this season. Kentucky was a team with very high expectations for 2015 and has come nowhere close. Prior to Kentucky’s game against Auburn on Oct. 16, the Wildcats were 4-1 had lost only once to Florida. After Auburn, Kentucky lost four in a row, making it a five-game losing streak in total. They managed to snap it last week with a 58-10 victory over Charlotte, but that was little consolation after that lengthy drought.

FLORIDA GATORS

Responsible for: Missouri
The Gators came out of nowhere this year and took full ownership of the SEC East. On the way, they beat former SEC East champion Missouri, holding them to just three points. Even before that game, we could see that there were some serious problems with the Tigers, primarily with their offense. They had already dropped a game to Kentucky. However, it was after the loss to Florida that the floodgates really opened. Missouri lost to Georgia, Vanderbilt and Mississippi State. While they broke that losing streak with a win over BYU, the Tigers lost again last Saturday to Tennessee.

LSU TIGERS

Responsible for: Auburn
Auburn has struggled in many way this season, which has even shocking to many considering they were ranked No. 6 in the country when the season started. It was LSU who first exposed them, with Leonard Fournette running all over them during a 45-21 rout in Week 3. After that, Auburn lost to Mississippi State and limped through close victories over San Jose State and Kentucky. It really wasn’t until Week 8, during the game against Arkansas, that Auburn started to look like it was sorting things out. And it wasn’t until Week 10, after Auburn lost two more to Arkansas and Ole Miss, that all the work finally notched them another victory. They stagger into the Iron Bowl Saturday with a shockingly bad 6-5 record.

TEXAS A&M AGGIES

Responsible for: South Carolina
The Gamecocks have not had a solid team all season, which is evidenced by their dismal 3-8 record. But when Shawn Elliott took over for Steve Spurrier, there was hope of a big finish after a nice 19-10 home win over Vanderbilt. But next up was Texas A&M and they took it to the Gamecocks, winning 35-28. The Gamecocks haven’t won since and Elliott certainly won’t be retained as Carolina’s coach. The four-game losing streak was capped by a brutal loss to The Citadel last Saturday. And to end this awful season? How about a visit from No. 1-ranked Clemson? This could get ugly in Columbia.

TOLEDO ROCKETS

Responsible for: Arkansas
One of the most shocking early-season losses was Arkansas falling to Toledo during Week 2, a game that had been considered a lock victory for the Razorbacks going in. An unprepared Arkansas then went on to lose two more, one to another nonconference opponent in Texas Tech and one to Texas A&M. Unlike the rest of the teams on this list, Arkansas finally did bounce back nicely. They’ve won some huge games – Ole Miss and LSU – and have been one of the most exciting teams to watch in the country the last half of the season.
