For those of you who have been following the weekly “Upon Further Review” articles following Alabama games, a reader has asked to see a full comparison of all Southeastern Conference teams for the mistakes index this season.

This is one of those take-it-for-what-it’s-worth things, but basically it’s a measure of miscues, and an indirect indicator of maturity and discipline. The mistakes index is fumbles lost + interceptions + penalties + sacks.

Alabama’s numbers are as follows:

Game-by-game
West Virginia 0+1+7+0 = 8
Florida Atlantic 0+0+6+1=7
Southern Miss 1+0+3+1=5
Florida 3+1+11+1=16
Ole Miss 1+1+8+1=11
Arkansas 2+0+4+2=8
Texas A&M 0+0+0+1=1
Tennessee 2+0+6+1=9
LSU 1+0+3+1= 5
Mississippi State 0+0+7+1=8

Game-by-game opponents
West Virginia 0+0+6+3 = 9
Florida Atlantic 1+0+3+3=7
Southern Miss 0+0+6+1=7
Florida 1+2+5+0=8
Ole Miss 1+0+3+2+7
Arkansas 2+1+4+4=11
Texas A&M 0+1+2+6=9
Tennessee 1+1+4+2=8
LSU 0+1+2+2=5
Mississippi State 0+3+4+1=8

In 2013, Alabama averaged 10.3 “mistakes” per game, but also saw its average jump up from 9.8 during the last two losses, including a ridiculously high 19 against Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl.

With that in mind, here’s this season’s numbers so far:
Arkansas 8+6+49+11=74
Georgia 3+3+56+13=75
Alabama 11+3+55+10=79
Mississippi State 10+11+47+17=85
Tennessee 7+10+39+33=89
Florida 7+11+59+14=91
South Carolina 5+10+57+20=92
Auburn 12+5+67+9=93
Ole Miss 6+8+57+23=94
Texas A&M 4+13+57+22=96
LSU 7+8+60+22=97
Vanderbilt 9+14+61+16=100
Missouri 1+10+75+15=101
Kentucky 4+9+62+31=106

Of course some teams have already played 11 games, while Florida has only had nine due to its opener being cancelled from inclement weather.

So here are the averages per game:

Arkansas 7.4
Georgia 7.5
Alabama 7.9
Mississippi State 8.5
Texas A&M 8.7
LSU 8.8
Tennessee 8.9
South Carolina 9.2
Auburn 9.3
Ole Miss 9.4
Kentucky 9.6
Vanderbilt 10.0
Florida 10.1
Missouri 10.1
