The SEC has seen success in bowl games during the past decade. Whether national championships or pre-January matchups, the conference has dominated the postseason. But there have been instances where underdog teams have earned upset wins, which could be the case in several upcoming games. Here are four SEC teams that are on upset alert.

GEORGIA

The Bulldogs look to avoid back-to-back losses against ACC teams following their Week 14 loss to Georgia Tech. Louisville boasts one of the nation’s top defenses, including safety Gerod Holliman, who leads the nation with 14 interceptions. The Cardinals rush defense ranks No. 2 overall, which could force Hutson Mason to take over as more than just a game manager.

FLORIDA

The Gators could play like a team inspired in what will be the last game for a large portion of their roster. But East Carolina is more than capable of competing against an SEC team, as proven in Week 2 against South Carolina. The Pirates’ No. 3 overall passing offense could exploit the Florida defense if senior wide receiver Justin Hardy has a breakout performance.

AUBURN

Wisconsin finds itself in a similar position to 2012. Former head coach and current AD Barry Alvarez will step in as interim coach for the team’s bowl game following Gary Andersen’s departure, much like he did after Bret Bielema left for Arkansas. The Badgers could rally under the school’s all-time winningest coach to defeat the favored Tigers, who have shown inconsistency in the second half of the season.

TENNESSEE

My gut feeling tells me not to be confident about Tennessee’s bowl chances. Watching this team all season, its apparent that the Vols are a work in progress. Sure, the talent is there at several positions — i.e. Jalen Hurd, Derek Barnett and other key freshmen — but the offensive line is such a liability that it hinders the entire offense. Iowa is a capable opponent that could exploit Tennessee’s woes in the trenches and force Joshua Dobbs to struggle.
