SEC fans are quick to proclaim their conference as the best in college football. It’s tough to argue against the conference that has claimed eight of the past 10 national titles, but USA TODAY did some research to back up this claim.

The popular publication released their college football conference rankings from 2015 on Friday, and the SEC cruised to an easy victory.

According to USA TODAY’s data, the SEC ranked No. 1 among all of the conferences in non-conference performance, computer rankings, points-per-game differential and yards-per-play differential. The only category in which the SEC didn’t claim the top spot was strength of schedule.

Here’s what USA TODAY had to say about the SEC:

“The SEC plays the best defense in the FBS, and of all the categories it led in this analysis, its YPP differential stood out at almost double the second-place league. A testament to the SEC’s top-to-bottom strength is the fact that two teams considered to have had subpar seasons in 2015 — Auburn and Missouri — had two of the top 10 strongest non-conference performances in the FBS. Overall, the league was 13-6 vs. non-conference Power Five opponents, best of any league.”

Not surprisingly, Alabama was the conference’s top team in four of the five categories. Yards-per-play differential, which went to Ole Miss, was the only category to not have the Crimson Tide at the top.
