Earlier tonight, the Southeastern Conference handed out its weekly football honors to the top performers from this past week of SEC football.

Here are the following Week 8 award winners.

Offensive Player of the Week

Nick Chubb, RB, Georgia

The true freshman continued his outstanding play in place of Todd Gurley. Chubb, who made just his second collegiate start this past weekend, ran for 202 yards and two touchdowns against a stingy Arkansas defense. He averaged 6.7 yards per carry on 30 carries and led the Bulldogs to another big win on the road.

Defensive Player of the Week

Damian Swann, DB, Georgia

It was a unit that brought a lot of question marks to the table, but the senior defensive back Damian Swann has played a big role in improving a rather unexperienced group. Swann was especially deadly on the corner blitz last weekend, racking up 11 tackles, one sack and also forced two fumbles. His 11 tackles were a career high.

Special Teams Player of the Week

Marcus Murphy, RB, Missouri

Marcus Murphy was the biggest X-factor in Missouri’s dominating win over the Florida Gators. Not only did he get the game started with an opening kickoff return for a touchdown, but he also took back an 82-yard punt return for another score. His 224 all-purpose yards were also a career high.

Freshman of the Week

Marquis Haynes, DE, Ole Miss

In addition to leading a incredibly talented Ole Miss defensive line with 2.5 sacks, Marquis Haynes also recorded five tackles, forced and recovered a fumble and earned a QB pressure. Despite being a freshman, Haynes has 4.5 sacks over the last two games and leads the SEC in forced fumbles (3) and is third in sacks (6.5).

Offensive Lineman of the Week

Arie Kouandjio, OL, Alabama

In a near perfect game for the Alabama Crimson Tide, Arie Kouandjio led an offensive line that was perhaps the most dominant unit of the day. Kouandjio earned the top grade among Alabama offensive linemen and helped an offense that earned 602 total yards of offense.

Defensive Lineman of the Week

Shane Ray, DE, Missouri

Can we just rename this award to the Shane Ray award? This Week 8 honor is his third SEC distinction this season and it’s certainly well-deserved. He added two more sacks to his an already remarkable season total of 10 sacks, which leads the SEC. Ray is now just 1.5 sacks shy of the Missouri school record, which was set in 2009 and in 2013 by Aldon Smith and Michael Sam, respectively.
