We’re inside of 10 months until the next National Signing Day, but anyone who follows recruiting knows it is a year-round process. With that in mind, we graded all seven SEC West teams based on their work on the recruiting trail thus far.

Take a look at our early recruiting report card based on the class of 2016:

ALABAMA

Grade: C — It’s still early in the process, but Alabama has plenty of slots left to fill in its 2016 class. However, the Tide often pursues the nation’s top recruits, and top recruits rarely commit this far removed from signing day, so there’s no reason to believe Alabama won’t assume the No. 1 class next February.

Commits (5): CB Shyheim Carter (5-star), OT Jonah Williams (4-star), DT Raekwon Davis (3-star), WR T.J. Simmons (3-star), TE Brendan Scales (3-star).

Needs addressed: DB, OL, WR

Needs to be addressed: DL, LB

ARKANSAS

Grade: C+ — Bret Bielema teams are predicated on winning at the line of scrimmage, so even though the Hogs’ class lacks depth at this point in the process, it has two touted defensive tackle commits in place to aid the battle in the trenches.

Commits (5): DT Austin Capps (4-star), DT Briston Guidry (4-star), WR Jordan Jones (3-star), QB Cole Kelley (3-star), ATH T.J. Hammonds (3-star).

Needs addressed: DL, WR

Needs to be addressed: RB, OL, DB

AUBURN

Grade: B — Auburn earned a commitment from the top wideout in the 2016 class as well as Stephen Davis Jr., son of Auburn’s former star tailback. The Tigers loaded up with playmakers on offense, which should have Gus Malzahn feeling giddy, and they added a few defensive linemen for Will Muschamp’s benefit as well.

Commits (5): WR Nate Craig-Myers (5-star), ATH Stephen Davis Jr. (4-star), TE Landon Rice (3-star), DE David Marshall (3-star), DT Quinnen Williams (3-star).

Needs addressed: WR, TE, RB, DL,

Needs to be addressed: OL, LB, DB

LSU

Grade: A- — As it stands today, LSU has a top 5 class in advance of next year’s National Signing Day, thanks to a whopping nine commitments, including eight from players rated four stars or better. As usual, the Tigers loaded up at wide receiver and defensive back, and dual-threat quarterback Feleipe Franks represents the wild card of the class.

Commits (9): CB Saivion Smith (5-star), DT Edwin Alexander (5-star), QB Feleipe Franks (4-star), WR Stephen Sullivan (4-star), WR Dee Anderson (4-star), OG Donavaughn Campbell (4-star), TE Jamal Pettigrew (4-star), S Cameron Lewis (4-star), S Clifford Chattman (3-star).

Needs addressed: DB, WR, DT

Needs to be addressed: RB, OL

MISSISSIPPI STATE

Grade: B — Not only does Mississippi State have one of the largest classes at this juncture of the recruiting process, but it also has attacked a junior college market that the rest of the West seems to have left alone for the time being. MSU has four junior college signees slated to arrive in Starkville after next fall, bringing with them experience, maturity and more developed bodies than their high school counterparts.

Commits (10): OT Tommy Champion (4-star — juco transfer), ATH Cameron Myers (4-star — juco transfer), CB Larshard Durr (3-star — juco transfer), OLB Deshon Cooper (3-star — juco transfer), S Zaire Jones (3-star), OG Dee Nalls (3-star), DT Caleb Tillman (3-star), CB C.J. Morgan-Walker (3-star), S Quincy Lenton (3-star), OT Dareuan Parker (3-star).

Needs addressed: OL, DL, DB

Needs to be addressed: WR, RB

OLE MISS

Grade: A — The Rebels have more commits than any other team in the West, including five-star quarterback Shea Patterson, who is seen as the future of the Ole Miss offense. The Rebels added a four-star wideout, tight end and two four-star tailbacks around him, and restocked the defensive line as well in what is becoming typical Hugh Freeze fashion.

Commits (12): QB Shea Patterson (5-star), WR Dekaylin Metcalf (4-star), DT Benito Jones (4-star), TE Octavious Cooley (4-star), RB Justin Connor (4-star), DE Charles Wiley (4-star), RB Denzel Mitchell (4-star), OLB David Luafatasaga (4-star), TE Gabe Angel (3-star), OC Eli Johnson (3-star), S Greg Elsworth (3-star), WR Daniel Crowell (3-star).

Needs addressed: QB, RB, WR, TE, DL

Needs to be addressed: OL, DB

TEXAS A&M

Grade: C — Texas A&M has a player many consider to be the best in the class at any position in Gregory Little, and considering A&M’s history of producing first-round NFL offensive tackles, it seems like a perfect marriage. However, the Aggies only have three other commits, one of which is a kicker, and that lack of depth leaves plenty of room for improvement in the coming months.

Commits (4): OT Gregory Little (5-star), CB Travon Fuller (4-star), TE Zarrian Holcombe (3-star), K Braden Mann (2-star).

Needs addressed: OT, DB

Needs to be addressed: RB, DL, LB
