Now that spring practice is finished, let’s take a close look at the injury situation on every SEC West team, keeping in mind players who were dismissed or left their teams.

ALABAMA

Major Injuries: DE Jonathan Allen (shoulder), LT Cam Robinson (shoulder)

Other Casualties: WR Raheem Falkins (leg), RB Ronnie Clark (Achilles), LB Shawn Jennings (knee), LB Lyndell Wilson (labrum)

Alabama had two notable injuries suffered during spring practices: one to RB Ronnie Clark who tore his Achilles just before the spring game, and one to reserve OL Richie Petitbon who went down with a torn ACL.

DE Jonathan Allen was limited throughout the spring, being kept out of all contact drills after having shoulder surgery. Another key defensive lineman (the Tide have a lot of those), DT Da’Shawn Hand, was slowed by back spasms but played in the spring game.

Likewise, star safety Eddie Jackson overcame a leg issue to play in the scrimmage. Left tackle Cam Robinson is still recovering from shoulder surgery, but he’s expected to return in the fall.

Junior receiver Raheem Falkins missed the entire 2015 season with a leg injury and spent the spring in a black, non-contact jersey. LB Shawn Jennings is still working his way back from the season-ending knee injury he sustained last October.

Five-star LB Lyndell Wilson found out in late March that he had been playing with a torn labrum since the 10th grade and had surgery on it. He’s hoping to make his way back by fall.

ARKANSAS

Major Injuries: RB Kody Walker (foot), Rawleigh Williams (neck), WR Keon Hatcher (foot)

Other (Potential) Casualties: None.

Injuries have been an issue for RB Kody Walker, who had season-ending setbacks in 2011 (shin) and 2012 (broken leg). He went down with a broken foot with about a week-and-a-half left in spring practices. However, coach Bret Bielema says Walker should be ready to go by June.

Fellow RB Rawleigh Williams III is still in the process of bouncing back from his neck injury, playing in a non-contact jersey during the Razorbacks’ spring game.

Receiver Keon Hatcher played in the spring game, but then Hatcher posted a picture on Snapchat that showed his foot in a boot and hinting that he had surgery. That was later confirmed by several sources. How much time he’ll miss is unknown, and he was expected to address that in a news conference to recap spring practice on Thursday.

AUBURN

Major injuries: None.

Other Casualties: S Tray Matthews (shoulder), CB Jeremiah Dinson (knee/shoulder), QB Tyler Queen (shoulder), RB Malik Miller (ankle), CB Josh Holsey (ACL)

Auburn looks to be relatively healthy compared to other SEC teams after spring practices.

The depth in the secondary has taken a hit with Tray Matthews, Jeremiah Dinson and Josh Holsey missing the entire spring.

Other than that, quarterback Tyler Queen suffered a shoulder injury the Saturday before the team’s spring game, while running back Malik Miller tweaked his ankle during the spring game.

LSU

Major Injuries: OG Will Clapp (sports hernia), C Ethan Pocic (hip), RT Toby Weathersby, S Rickey Jefferson, CB Kevin Toliver II (shoulder), WR Travin Dural (hamstring)

Other Casualties: S John Battle (hip/sports hernia), TE DeSean Smith, FB J.D. Moore (knee), RB Darrel Williams (ankle)

LSU played its spring game without three of its presumed five starting offensive linemen due to injuries: C Ethan Pocic, OG Will Clapp and RT Toby Weathersby. After the game, coach Les Miles liked what he saw from Weathersby’s replacement, sophomore K.J. Malone.

Andy Dodd was in for Pocic at center and Garrett Brumfield filled Clapp’s spot. Despite allowing eight sacks, the offensive line fared well in protecting starting QB Brandon Harris, who only got sacked two of those eight times.

The Tigers have also had a few bodies go down in the secondary, and fans got to see some potential replacements there in the game also.

S Dwayne Thomas was injured safety Rickey Jefferson’s replacement while CB Saivion Smith — the No. 5 cornerback in the 2016 recruiting class — filled in for an injured Kevin Toliver II. Here’s what S Jamal Adams told Nola.com about how the prized recruit performed:

“Saivion (Smith) stepped right in and filled that roll quickly. It was a missing heartbeat to us, but we regrouped and we battled.”

MISSISSIPPI STATE

Major Injuries: WR Fred Ross (groin), WR Donald Gray (leg)

Other Casualties: WR Fred Brown (kicked out of school), TE Gus Walley (left team due to injuries), OL Jake Thomas (left team due to injuries)

So much has been made about life after Dak Prescott, but who will his successor be throwing to?

Mississippi State’s receiving corps lost De’Runnya Wilson to the NFL, and the group didn’t survive the spring without losing its other three best options.

First, Fred Ross, who was second in the SEC with 88 catches last season, had surgery on his groin on the same day the Bulldogs opened spring practices. Later, senior receiver Donald Gray — the No. 1 JUCO wideout from the 2015 class — hyperextended his leg in late March and was ruled out for the spring.

Fred Brown was dismissed from MSU for breaking the school’s honor code in mid-April.

As for Ross, coach Dan Mullen didn’t seem too concerned about it, saying he knows what he’s doing and only needs him for the fall. When it comes to Gray, a hyperextension shouldn’t keep him out for an extended period.

OLE MISS

Major Injuries: QB Chad Kelly (sports hernia), HUSKIE Tony Conner (knee), OL Robert Conyers (ACL), OL Rod Taylor (shoulder), DE Fadol Brown (foot)

Other Casualties: None.

Seeing Chad Kelly’s name up there shouldn’t be a concern. While he was forced to miss the last portion of spring practices due to a sports hernia procedure, he had a three-week recovery timetable.

A couple offensive linemen will have to get back up to speed quickly as Florida State looms in Week 1.

Rod Taylor was sidelined for the spring after having shoulder surgery due to a torn labrum. Robert Conyers, who was starting at center last season before tearing his ACL against Memphis, was limited throughout the spring. Conyers has suffered multiple knee injuries in his career.

“We’ll have to manage him the whole year probably,” coach Hugh Freeze said. “He’s got very little meniscus left.”

A vital cog of the Rebels’ defense, safety Tony Conner, missed all of spring with a knee injury. However, Freeze believes he’s on track to return to the unit this fall. DE Fadol Brown is recovering from a December procedure to repair a broken bone in his left foot. He was out of his walking boot in late March.

TEXAS A&M

Major Injuries: S/NB Donovan Wilson (shoulder), OG Keaton Sutherland (shoulder), LB Richard Moore, RB Keith Ford, S Justin Dunning (ACL), LB Riley Garner (knee)

Other Casualties: LB A.J. Hilliard (retired due to injury)

The Aggies have some concerns at offensive line and linebacker coming out of the spring.

Sophomore LB Richard Moore started at weakside linebacker in four of the team’s final five games in 2016, playing in eight games overall, and showed great potential. However, he had offseason surgery that kept him out the entire spring.

Several other linebackers have injury histories, so the group’s depth is a question mark.

While it’s said that transfer RB Keith Ford (Oklahoma) was held out of the team’s “Friday Night Lights” scrimmage and spring game due to precautionary reasons due to injury, it still has to be concerning due to his injury history with the Sooners. Hopefully there’s nothing to worry about there.

Coach Kevin Sumlin has said that Donovan Wilson, Keaton Sutherland, Justin Dunning and Riley Garner — all held out of contact drills in the spring — should be available in June.

The team hopes Sutherland comes back 100 percent. Outside of LT Avery Gennesy, who started every game last season, Sutherland is the only player with significant starting experience after making seven starts in 2015.
