Oh, the anticipation.

Nothing gets college football fans excited quite like the prospects of a dual-threat quarterback, and the SEC is loaded with them for the 2016 recruiting class.

Will these guys show up on campus and be the next Brad Smith, Johnny Manziel, Cam Newton or Tim Tebow? Maybe a combination of all four?

The vagueness of the descriptor “dual-threat” is used to signify the quarterback’s ability to both be a factor in the running game as well as the passing game. It leads the mind to wander about all of the different ways a high-school quarterback could help his team when he gets to college.

We recently compiled a list of the Top 5 pro-style quarterbacks with SEC commitments, and it was pretty solid. This one has a chance to be even better.

Here are five of the best dual-threat quarterbacks with verbal commitments to sign with SEC schools for the 2016 recruiting cycle:

1. Feleipe Franks (Crawfordville, Fla.) — LSU commit

  • The skinny: Could Franks be the answer at the quarterback position that Tigers fans have prayed would arrive in Baton Rouge? Franks is the top-ranked dual-threat quarterback in the 2016 recruiting class, and the 48th player overall, according to 247Sports.com. At 6-foot-5 and 220-pounds, he already looks the part of big-time quarterback.

2. Jarrett Guarantano (Oradell, N.J.) — Tennessee commit

  • The skinny: Tennessee fans should be excited about this one. Watch the breakaway speed on this video. Guarantano, who is the No. 2 dual-threat QB according to 247Sports, looks like just the right fit for the spread-option offense that Butch Jones likes to run. If you think Joshua Dobbs looked good at the end of last season, give Guarantano a few years more years to develop and see just how good the Vols can be with him at quarterback.

3. Woody Barrett (Winter Garden, Fla.) – Auburn commit

  • The skinny: He already has made his mark on the in-state rivalry, choosing Auburn instead of Alabama when making his announcement in June. Barrett, who competed at the Elite 11 QB camp, brings a skill set that looks like a perfect match for the Gus Malzahn brand of offense at Auburn.

4. Brandon McIlwain (Newtown, Pa.) — South Carolina commit

  • The skinny: Even though he’s a little bit smaller than the guys listed above (6-foot, 200-pounds), McIlwain may be one of the most athletic quarterback recruits in recent South Carolina history. He ran for 1,100 yards and 20 touchdowns last season in addition to 2,100 yards passing the ball.

5. Jalen Hurts (Channelview, Texas) — Alabama commit

  • The skinny: Throwing for more than 2,500 yards and rushing for nearly 1,000 yards in his junior season has Alabama fans excited about Hurts’ dual-threat potential. Hurts ranks fifth on this list, but is the ninth-best dual-threat QB in the country according to 247Sports. Think about what that says for the caliber of QB recruit the SEC is set to bring in this recruiting cycle.
