Herschel Walker, Bo Jackson, Darren McFadden, take your pick from the dozens of running backs that have come through the SEC and left their legacy on college football.

But they all had to start somewhere, usually as highly-rated recruits coming out of high school.

The 2016 recruiting class adds some more top running back prospects to the SEC and hopes to continue the conference’s trend of strong backfields.

Here are the best five running backs currently on board in the opinion of Saturday Down South:

1.  Justin Connor (Sardis, Miss.) — Ole Miss commit

  • The skinny: Connor is listed as an athlete by some scouting services but his best fit is at running back. Connor is a four-star back that’s rated No. 3 in the country at his position and he will look to represent well for the school that’s right in his own backyard. Connor is able to use his speed and agility to make defenders miss and rip off huge chunks of yards at a time. This is a huge in-state target that the Rebels have landed.

2.  B.J. Emmons (Morganton, N.C.) — Alabama commit

  • The skinny: Emmons is a four-star runner that is a load to bring down at 225 pounds and he will most likely continue to add muscle and size to his frame before college. We all know the Crimson Tide like powerful backs that can do the dirty work between the tackles and Emmons looks poised to fill that role. As you’ll see in his film, Emmons does an excellent job of keeping his legs moving to break through tackles and pick up yards after first contact. He also appears to have some wheels for his size and is said to run about a 4.5 40-yard dash.

3.  D’Vaughn Pennamon (Manvel, Texas) — Ole Miss commit

  • The skinny: Ole Miss has managed to grab two of the top five backs that will be joining the SEC in 2016. This year’s starter Jaylen Walton graduates at the end of this year and backup Jordan Wilkins will be a junior next year when Connor and Pennamon arrive, so looks like the Rebels are looking to reload in the backfield. The two should make for an excellent duo with Pennamon’s 221 pounds providing the thunder and Connor’s quickness providing the lightning.

4.  Carl Fils-Aime (Naples, Fla.) – Tennessee commit

  • The skinny: With a 4.4 40-yard dash, Fins-Aime can really scoot. His film mostly consist of him blowing by defenders who don’t have a prayer of catching him. He’s so fast that the defenses in the SEC might struggle to catch him too. But at 175 pounds, will Fils-Aime be able to withstand the pounding from perhaps the most physical conference in college football?

5.  C.J. Freeman (Greensboro, N.C.) — South Carolina commit

  • The skinny: Freeman might be the best combination of speed and power on this list. In his film he shows great field vision and the ability to make defenders miss in a multitude of ways. The Gamecocks are in search of their next Marcus Lattimore and they might have found a strong candidate from their northern neighbor.
