This is going to be one of those games we look back on and wonder why we didn’t hype it up more. No. 21 Mississippi State is a 5.5-point underdog at No 14 Texas A&M. It’s a matchup of two of the elite SEC quarterbacks and two programs poised to take the next step.

No. 21 Mississippi State (3-1) at No. 14 Texas A&M (4-0), 7:30 p.m. ET, SECN — Both teams are coming off unimpressive wins last week. Mississippi State beat Auburn 17-9, while Texas A&M rallied late to beat Arkansas 28-21 in overtime. There’s more on the line for the Bulldogs, who have already picked up one loss back in Week 2 against LSU. Dak Prescott has the ingredients of a QB that can win big games on the road. He’s efficient and protects the football. He’s completing 66.9 percent of his passes with seven touchdowns and no interceptions. He actually hasn’t thrown a pick in 191 consecutive passes dating back to last year’s Orange Bowl loss to Georgia Tech, the longest streak in the FBS. And he wasn’t just efficient, he was prolific in a 48-31 win over Texas A&M last season, going 20-for-26 passing for 268 yards while accounting for five touchdowns (two passing, three rushing).

Last week, the Aggies were trailing 14-13 entering the fourth quarter of their win against the Razorbacks. I think the outcome is different against the Prescott-led Bulldogs, who seem to be a jack-of-all-trades sort of squad that just does what it takes to win. There’s no doubt Kyle Allen has weapons in the passing game as Christian Kirk and Josh Reynolds make up maybe the best receiving tandem in the league. However, if the running game features a back with team-highs in the form of eight rushes and 28 rushing yards (Shon Carson was that guy vs. Arkansas), then Texas A&M may be in trouble. And why not Hail State? Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin is 0-5 at home against ranked opponents as the Aggies coach. MSU coach Dan Mullen was 2-21 against ranked opponents in Mullen’s first five seasons in Starkville. However, his team was 3-3 last season and lost a heartbreaker to LSU this season. Either way, this one should be fun.
