Florida, perhaps a bit hung over from last week’s loss at Tennessee, needed all 60 minutes to defeat Vanderbilt on the road.

While the Gators moved to 4-1 on the season, they weren’t impressive by any stretch of the imagination. The Commodores still had life in the final stages of the fourth quarter before UF picked off a Wade Freebeck pass to seal it.

Austin Appleby, making his second start for Florida taking over for the injured Luke Del Rio, was ineffective from start to finish. Inaccurate throws, questionable decisions, a crucial fumble deep in enemy territory — there’s no reason to believe that Del Rio won’t get his job back the moment he’s healthy again.

On the other side of the ball, the Gators surrendered 110 yards rushing to Ralph Webb. Most alarming, the orange-and-blue defense is bruised and battered right now, plus LSU and Leonard Fournette are up next.
