As Alabama and Florida gear up for this weekend’s SEC Championship Game, CBS broadcaster Verne Lundquist looked back on two of his favorite matchups from the teams’ long history of title game showdowns.

SEC on CBS’ official Twitter account on Friday posted a video of Lundquist recalling the 2008 and 2009 SEC Championship Game, which both pitted top-two teams against each other. The Crimson Tide was No. 1 and the Gators were No. 2 in 2008, but their roles were reversed the following year.

It’s no wonder Lundquist remembers those games so fondly — both contests featured Heisman Trophy winners, and the No. 2 team won each battle before claiming the national championship.

Lundquist also reflected on the most memorable plays and moments from each game. This year’s SEC title game will be the final conference broadcast of his storied 17-year career with CBS.

No. 1 Alabama (12-0, 8-0) takes on No. 15 Florida (8-3, 6-2) at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday in Atlanta, and Lundquist is surely hoping their showdown will be as memorable as ones that have come before it.
