Oh boy, it’s the first real taste of SEC arch rivals meeting in a game as important as any we’ve had this season. The overall slate of six games across the conference this week may not be the most compelling, but when we start getting contests like the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, you know we’re getting into the fun part of the season.

We’ve learned a few things about each conference teams in the first half of the season and now we’ve rated all six games of this week’s games on watchability. These rankings are subjective, but factor in league and national impact along with how exciting and how close the games will be. Games are ranked on a 1-5 Georgia Dome scale (the site of the SEC Championship Game), with 5 being the most watchable game and 1 being the least.

5 GEORGIA DOMES

No. 11 Florida vs. Georgia, 3:30 p.m. ET, CBS — Before the season even began, we all knew this one was going to be a battle between a team doing everything it could to stay in the driver’s seat for the SEC East title and potentially make a bid for the College Football Playoff versus another once-proud program trying to claw its way back into the Top 25. We just had the teams reversed. It’s always worth watching when the Gators and Bulldogs go to Jacksonville, and this year there’s plenty on the line with both teams trying to move on after the loss of key players. Florida has been a big surprise and could take a huge step towards locking down a spot in Atlanta. Georgia needs this one to make up for a pair of early losses that knocked them from the top 10 all the way to the land of “receiving votes.” It should be a blast.

4 GEORGIA DOMES

None this week

3 GEORGIA DOMES

Vanderbilt at No. 18 Houston, 7 p.m. ET, ESPN2 — For a non-conference game between a team just trying to stay out of the SEC East cellar and another from the American Athletic Conference, this game has fairly big implications. The AAC is looking for more than just bragging rights. It’s looking for a second win against the SEC following Memphis’ victory over Ole Miss, which certainly bolsters their case for the league champion to make a New Year’s Six bowl, or perhaps even claim a playoff spot. It’s also a matchup of contrasting styles. Houston can throw the ball around while Vandy’s strength is in the secondary. If it’s a shootout, the Commodores are in trouble. If it keeps the score down, Vandy could pull it out.

Tennessee at Kentucky, 7:30 p.m. ET, SECN — Both teams desperately need this one as they try to make it to a bowl game. Tennessee is coming off yet another heartbreaker after giving up a late lead to Alabama last week. Kentucky got its doors blown off and its confidence shaken by Mississippi State. Both teams have seen talent upgrades in recent years, but the rosters are still young enough to foster mixed results. Mentally, who knows if the Wildcats can survive another beatdown, and what might happen to the Volunteers if they suffer yet another close loss? There’s going to be a sense of urgency on the field in Lexington.

2 GEORGIA DOMES

South Carolina at Texas A&M, Noon, SECN — It’s not quite a free fall yet for the Aggies, who have lost two in a row in unimpressive fashion. But a loss to the lowly Gamecocks would make it so. That doesn’t seem too likely. Texas A&M still has a ton of talent, and this game against South Carolina is actually pretty perfectly timed for a team needing to work out some kinks. It could be worth watching if you’ve been curious how Jake Hubenak might look like at quarterback for the Aggies.

Ole Miss at Auburn, Noon, ESPN — Auburn’s season crashed and burned early on, but the question now is whether the Tigers still have enough left in them to pull off an upset that would rock the top of the conference standings. Ole Miss is certainly still in the hunt for a trip to Atlanta, and on paper they should roll over Auburn. But it’s never been an easy place to play, and the Rebels haven’t been particularly consistent in recent weeks. This one has the potential to be a blowout, but if it is close in the second half, it’s worth turning over to ESPN.

1 GEORGIA DOME

UT-Martin at Arkansas, 4 p.m. ET, SECN — If you are a diehard Razorbacks fan, then by all means, have fun. Otherwise you can surely find more meaningful games that won’t be a complete blowout. Arkansas is getting better, certainly good enough to take it to UT-Martin, but it’s too late for a non-conference game such as this to carry much significance to fans of other schools.
