With two of the SEC East teams off this past weekend, action was somewhat limited in the conference’s weaker division. Georgia enjoyed a 66-0 blowout win over Troy, while South Carolina outlasted Vanderbilt by 14 points in the nightcap. Florida struggled mightily against Alabama on the road and Missouri finished the day with an incredibly disappointing loss to Indiana at home.

Here’s what we learned about every SEC East team in Week 4.

Florida Gators
Week 4 result: Lost to Alabama, 42-21
What we learned: It was a tough day at the office for the Florida Gators, who couldn’t take advantage of four turnovers by Alabama. The offense stalled virtually on every drive and quarterback Jeff Driskel was less than impressive. If it hadn’t been for the four turnovers, there’s a very good chance the Gators could have suffered an even bigger defeat at the hands of Blake Sims and Amari Cooper.

Despite not being expected to beat Alabama, it was still a disappointing outing for the Gators who provided little resistance to the Alabama offense and showed little to no life in their own offense. Fortunately for Florida, they have a bye week upcoming to rest up and fix the issues before traveling to Knoxville to take on Tennessee.

Georgia Bulldogs
Week 4 result: Defeated Troy, 66-0
What we learned: The biggest lesson we learned from the Georgia Bulldogs yesterday had to be the emergence of Sony Michel. The true freshman took advantage of the ample playing time after Todd Gurley exited the game and destroyed the Trojans to the tune of 155 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Other than that, it was a relatively run-of-the-mill day for the Bulldogs, who were rarely tested by an overwhelmed Troy program. Overall, the SEC East is proving to be wide-open, but Georgia appears to be the most talented team of the bunch. They’ll be tested next week against Tennessee when they face the Vols in Athens.

Kentucky Wildcats
Week 4 result: Bye week
What we learned: The Wildcats were on a bye week this past weekend, so it’ll be another week until we get to know more about this intriguing Kentucky squad. For now, it appears Kentucky has improved quite a bit from last season, but we’ll know more as they get further into conference play.

Missouri Tigers
Week 4 result: Lost to Indiana, 31-27
What we learned: Considered one of the most overlooked teams in the SEC, Missouri had it all going for them behind an exciting, young quarterback, explosive skill players and a disruptive defensive line. But it all came crashing down this weekend in a surprising defeat to lowly Indiana. The defense was gashed for 493 yards, including 241 rushing yards. There’s no question Missouri has the talent to compete this season for an SEC East title, but it’s still up in the air about how this kind of loss will affect them moving forward. They won’t have much time to dwell on it, though, with a trip to Columbia in order to face South Carolina next week.

South Carolina Gamecocks
Week 4 result: Defeated Vanderbilt, 48-34
What we learned: In somewhat surprising circumstances, South Carolina needed three and a half quarters to put away the lowly Vanderbilt Commodores. Vanderbilt was aided by two kickoff returns for a touchdown, but they were also able to move the ball rather well against South Carolina, which has to be concerning for the Gamecocks’ defense moving forward. South Carolina escaped Nashville with a 14-point victory, but the Gamecocks are far from secure as they progress further into their SEC schedule. They have the talent on offense, but the defense still appears to have some major question marks.

Tennessee Volunteers
Week 4 result: Bye week
What we learned: With the Vols on a bye this past week, they had a chance to recuperate before preparing to take on the Georgia Bulldogs on the road in Athens. A strong performance against their SEC East rival would certainly open up some eyes within the conference.

Vanderbilt Commodores
Week 4 result: Lost to South Carolina, 48-34
What we learned: Coming into this game, Vanderbilt had virtually no momentum and only a three-point victory over UMass to hang their hat on. Despite all of this, the Commodores played South Carolina tough for all four quarters and benefited from two big special teams plays and an impressive performance from true freshman Wade Freebeck after Patton Robinette went down early with an injury. Vanderbilt probably won’t compete in many SEC games this year, but it’s definitely a step forward for Derek Mason’s squad.
