Things have cleared a little in the SEC and ACC after last weekend’s games. Ole Miss came back to the pack as Florida popped to the top. Alabama’s beating of Georgia has the Tide back in it, but UGA still has a chance.

In the Atlantic Coast Conference, Clemson took care of Notre Dame, while Florida State got by Wake Forest.

If the second half of the season is anything like the first, fans are in for a fun ride.

Here is how we see the two conferences’ teams ranked together as rated by Saturday Down South’s power rankings SDS power rankings:

PLAYOFF CONTENDERS

The SEC West still is the best division in college football, but the Gators made a huge statement Saturday. But Clemson and the Noles can compete with anyone.

1. LSU (4-0)
2. Alabama (4-1)
3. Clemson (4-0)
4. Florida State (4-0)
5. Texas A&M (5-0)

SERIOUS CONTENDERS

It is a tad too soon to count out a one-loss team in the SEC from a chance to make it to the final four. Unfortunately for the ACC, it has a drop off after the top two.

6. Florida (5-0)
7. Ole Miss (4-1)
8. Georgia (4-1)

CHALLENGERS

This is where the ACC and the SEC can make it interesting. These teams may not have what it takes to win the national title, but they will have a say in who will.

9. Mississippi State (3-2)
10. Duke (4-1)
11. North Carolina State (4-1)
12. North Carolina (4-1)
13. Kentucky (4-1)

NO ONE WANTS TO PLAY THESE TEAMS

These are the “lightning-in-a-bottle” teams. The ones that on any given Saturday can beat a contender that does not bring its ‘A’ game. Here is where the ACC is stacked.

14. Syracuse (3-1)
15. Georgia Tech (2-3)
16. Virginia Tech (2-3)
17. Missouri (4-1)
18. Miami (3-1)

20. Louisville (2-3)

ON THE UPSWING

Steadily improving, these teams are getting better week-by-week. They could upset one of the big boys before it is all said and done.

21. Pittsburgh (3-1)
22. Wake Forest (2-3)
23. Boston College (3-2)
24. Tennessee (2-3)
25. Auburn (3-2)
