South Carolina won’t win the East Division title, the SEC championship or go to a bowl game.

But South Carolina could win the Palmetto State championship — a major goal listed by the Gamecocks and their traditional season-ending opponent, the Clemson Tigers.

And a Gamecocks victory could be the biggest upset in the 113th game between the state’s two BCS football programs.

Granted, that’s not likely. The Tigers (11-0) enter noon start at No. 1 in the polls and the College Football Playoff rankings. The Gamecocks (3-8) are playing their last game under interim coach Shawn Elliott, who took over when Steve Spurrier resigned at midseason.

Clemson has beaten Notre Dame and Florida State. South Carolina has lost to Vanderbilt and The Citadel.

Still, it’s a rivalry game and the majority of the crowd at Williams-Brice Stadium will be Gamecocks fans.

Here’s five players to watch with potential to have major impact on the outcome:

1. Clemson QB Deshaun Watson — Perhaps the best quarterback in the country, Watson is an excellent passer, a dangerous runner and a tremendous leader. With a solid group of running backs and receivers, Watson has numerous offensive weapons. The sophomore has thrown for 2,944 yards and 26 TDs while completing 70.1 percent of his passes with 10 interceptions. He’s run for 642 yards and six TDs.

2. South Carolina LB Skai Moore — The Gamecocks’ leader with 98 tackles and four interceptions, Moore, with help from fellow linebackers T.J. Holloman and Jonathan Walton must find a way to balance stopping Clemson’s potent running game, Watson’s scrambles and the Tigers’ big-play passing attack.

3. South Carolina WR Pharoh Cooper — The junior receiver has provided most of the offense for the Gamecocks as a receiver and returner as well as the trigger man on trick plays. Despite the Gamecocks’ problems at quarterback, Cooper has 62 receptions for 887 yards and 6 TDs. He’s also thrown for a TD and averaged more than six yards on 20 carries.

4. Clemson RB Wayne Gallman — The Tigers’ top rusher, Gallman has gained 1,043 yards and scored nine TDs with a 5.3-yard average per carry.

5. Clemson WR Artavis Scott — Watson’s favorite receiver has caught 74 passes for 680 yards and four TDs.
